I'm far from always in favour of just going by the rankings but in this case, wirh currently a clear rankings gap between GB #8 Paul and #9 Alistair and then again between #11 Billy and #13 Felix ( with Kyle at #12 ), and some of these already proving themselves on grass, there looks to be a very good case for :
MD WCs: Jack Liam Jay Ryan Paul
( these 5 are all currently in line to be automatic Q entries )
Q WCs : Alistair Aidan Billy
Often there are some youngsters from further down the rankings but this year, good as they have been, I'm not sure that say Felix or Jack PJ have a case ahead of any of the above who have formed a pretty good top echelon.
If they stretch beyond a total of 8 initial GB WCs ( 8 has in the past been stated and actually the maximum initial GB WCs given before the play-offs ) then maybe find room for one or two more Q WCs. It has been stretched slightly once or twice before.
He's got his wildcard already but, just to say, it's not the best start for Luca Pow (whose wildcard comes from winning the U18s)...... he's just lost in the first round of the grass British Tour at North Oxford - lost 3-6 4-6 against a qualifier Max Relic .....
Agree that rankings seem a decent indicator this year. And would love your 5 to all be in the main draw.
But Alastair plays well on grass, and the LTA like him, and his ranking rise has been meteoric this year - I think a few good results in the next couple of weeks could make a very strong case for a MD WC.
And, yes, said on some other thread too that I think it's weird that Felix and Jack PJ haven't turned up here. (Also said the same for Luca but maybe that was for the best )
I'm A1 sure that whether or not a player like Alastair gets a MD wildcard in singles, he'll at least get one in the men's doubles - they do seem to do that quite often - a sort of compromise....
couple of things - are the entry lists based on 16th May rankings, presumably so (or some other date?). Are the players automatically entered (ie so we could see a lot more movement if players drop out) or are they already lists where people have selected to play ie they had a choice? Which is good if so?
Main draw list is based on 16th May rankings, qualifying on 23rd May. Looks like all players are automatically included (except for the banned players)

Thanks TA- so this could move around a lot before the event starts! Oh well, should keep us all entertained!

With Jack into the main draw directly, we also have the Surbiton final between Kudla and Thompson who are both already directly into Wimbledon main draw. So that frees up a couple of the likely wildcards , might enhance Ali Grays chances, particularly if he can do well against Verdasco in Nottingham.
I know someone (Jon, I think?) was asking about the the addict's link to the wildcard play-off fact sheet - don't know if it's been done but it seemed appropriate to put their link here anyway:
"Please note that this event is not open to the general public"
Why can't it be? They're never going to get huge crowds, why does it have to be the LTA's sport and not the publics?
It should be I agree - I guess if they make it open they need to put in place services such as catering, toilets, security, disability access etc even if at a small scale? But that presumably could be done and making the sport more open should be an aim, I would say
