Weeks 21 & 22 - French Open (Roland-Garros) - Paris, France (clay)

Into a 4th....... Brilliant Norrie, I never lose faith with him, but I DO need an early night tonight LOL

From his perspective it's not what Cam needs either (a late night) last thing he needs is a war of attrition when he's fighting through a sluggishness .

This will need some comeback from Cam now. 1-4* in the 4th.

'Khachanov is pumped' according to the commentary.

Really? I was thinking that this is the worst I've seen Cam plan. Hesitant, anti-intuative. I just hope this '2nd week of a slam' monkey on his shoulder doesn't get to him for too long

As I say only seen this set. he deserves a LOT of credit. Our version of David Ferrer, not going away.

Gutsy display (as always) but sadly not to be for Cam. Got a break back (saving 3 match points) but not enough and goes down 2-6, 5-7, 7-5, 4-6.

Khachanov played very well and deserved the win. A great atmosphere on court.

Still sure that Cam will reach the last 16 (or better) of a Slam at some stage though.

Cam gave it everything tonight but the warrior thing wasn't enough this time. To be fair Khachanov was hungry for the win and he was on song while Cam wasn't. Nobody can be at their best every time out, especially playing so often. Perhaps a few days rest is needed and Cam can come back better than ever for Wimbledon. Don't think he's peaked yet no way.

Tough but cam obviously fought hard.

I reckon hes got a decent grass game, reaching queens final last year shows that. Im not silly to say he could win it but he could get to the second week at Wimbledon, definitely

A quote from Laurent Lokoli, a very talented French player who's never quite got it all together:

"Si j'ai un enfant, je lui dirais de ne pas faire de tennis. On vous berce d'illusions, mais engrandissant tu veux en vivre, mais tu ne peux en vivre que quand tu es dans le Top 100"

Approx:

"If I ever have a child, I'll tell them not to do tennis. It lures you in with false promises - you learn that you can live off tennis, but only if you're in the top 100".

He most certainly needs to be adding that L16 or better sooner rather than later, especially as long as he is seeded to reach that stage.

To be fair he's only been even a top 40 ranked player for less than a year. But looked at overall and certainly having now been verging on the top 10 for a little while, and with other successes, it is a relatively poor Slam record.

So many of us will remember the amazing win of Anton Mat. over Holger Rune (DEN) in Junior Wimbly 2019

And three years later Rune is one of the biggest stories of the draw, so far.

Age 19, he's playing the French Open for the first time. Ranked ATP 40.

And he's now in the last 16, having won three rounds, SO easily, all in three sets, barely breaking a sweat.

And you've got to love the Spanish qualifier, Zepata Miralles, who is battling SO well against Zverev ....

Vamos, Bernabe !
