Dan proving once again why he is the Brit of choice for so many tennis fans with a few hours to burn.

I absolutely love his game, unpopular round here, but I cannot watch Murray at all, Dan I could cheerfully watch all day.  He can be an utter knob sometimes and I'd be interested to know if he has every been diagnosed with something on the autism spectrum (ADD, ADHD possibly) but he sure can play entertaining Tennis.

do you think Dan is unpopular here? I also love him, but I love all the entertainers, incl Andy, as I think entertaining play (style, verve) also comes with edginess and Andy has that!

That is why I am excited re Ilkley entry - it is stacked with players with a bit of edge!!!

It was so good. I especially liked Jack's 'dervishing' shot but as Dan said, '"not here for 'shot of the week' ".

However he shouldn't really be in a Challenger with his ranking. Hope being here has sorted his problems out so he can face opponents of the calibre that he needs.

Totally get this argument, and agree - but the points for winning here are higher than for making R3 of a grand slam - which would be a rare treat for Dan, so can't blame him.

In any case, I was a bit baffled by Sock's constant chuntering - it feels like if you're giving a constant commentary to your team on how you're struggling - even from the other end of the court! - you are handing your opponent a huge mental edge.

Hasnt that constant chunter been the narrative of Andys career. Evo is a little prone to it as well!

I don't really buy off on this for home tournaments

There are quite a lot of top 100 players playing in challengers this week, and other weeks

Now, Dan is maybe higher than most but this is not only a home event (as in GB) but it's the nearest he'll get to an actual home town tournament - I think it's brilliant that a Birmingham guy, who people know, who has charisma, turns out for a Nottingham challenger and really gives the local crowd something to cheer about

(PS I agree with Jon - why do you think Dan's game in unpopular on this forum, emmsie? I'm with Jeff - I can always watch Dan, he's certainly my favourite top GB guy for viewing)

I've said this before, but when Dan is on top form, there is no player I would rather watch.

Kick off for Dan is at 3.00pm.  This is a very late change to accomodate Beatriz Maia who is in the WTA singles final and also in the doubles final. It would be really, really mean to force Beatriz to play 2 finals without a break.

It is beautiful day here in SW London, I hope it is similar in Nottingham.

Edit:  Of course Dan is way better than challenger level. He would have made the cut for Stuttgart or Hertogenbosch (spelling ?!) without any trouble. I think he was based in Nottinham for a while, I'm sure he has friends there and wants to repay their hospitality  and good will. I dunno where Dan lives, but driving an hour or two to a tournament must be way nicer than driving an hour or two to an airport, waiting to check in, flying, picking up your baggage, taking a cab for another hour , checking into the hotel , worrying about your practice court etc etc. And the same on the way back.  I'm certain that his mum and dad will be so happy to see him!  And we get to see our favourite player! Everyone's a wiiner babe!   Right, I need a Hot Chocolate

The unpopular bit was that I don't enjoy watching Murray.

It's down as his residence.  No mention of the tax aspect, but that must have something to do with his choice.

Plus loads of great tennis training partners! Doesnt Andy have a place in Dubai also, as well as Miami. And Federer does as well.

Ah, the extra comma fooled us. Andy can be bit of a tough watch at times but he will always be my favourite player.

In his defence, his brothers have lived out there for a very long time now.
