Week 24 - ATP 500 - Cinch Championships - The Queen's Club, London, Great Britain (grass)

A win that was impressive for mental fortitude and showing guts and I will leave it at that. I hope Ryan enjoys the moment - would be a shame to turn in a similarly turgid performance for what will be an inherently winnable quarter final.

Well done Ryan. Through to the quarter finals and he's beaten another top 50 player. Who would have thought it.

Wow, I sit corrected!

Just hope this tournament doesn't do for his career what it did for Ian Flanagan's....

To be fair Ian Flanagan was ranked about 900 when he had his strange run. Ryan is a much better player and, although he clearly struggled with the moment at times today, won the first set 6-0 (losing 8 points) against a top 50 player and showed great grit at the end. I agree hes not your archetypal grass court player and may not go much further but lets enjoy the moment and the performance of the guy. This will mean an incredible amount to him.

He's a challenger player who has taken advantage of a wild card. I dont think anyone is judging it as anything other than that?

Obviously want Ryan to win, but whoever triumphs here will get some of the most scarcely deserved 45 ranking points in ATP history.

Whatever, that's 90 points in total so far this week for Ryan  biggrin

Absolutely brilliant.

Not a great quality tennis match (but neither was Berretini v Kudla) but it WAS an amazing fight by Ryan, to deal with the momentum swings, and to claw his way back - and good for us, I think, to see the other guy basically throw away a win, coz he had that match.....

Thrilled for Ryan

I had to go out at 2-0 in the third. How did Ryan turn it around, or did his opponent collapse?

Well done to Ryan in any case. So pleased for him.

Wow I stopped watching at 4-2 down, he looked gone and buried. I see he had to save break points after breaking back the sealed the win breaking again. Crazy match if you think about the pattern of it. Great to see, about time we got one like that its so often the opposite.

Up to live 145 - an incredible achievement. Should be seeded in the challengers now didnt see Ryan as a potential top 100 player a year ago when he was playing in M15s!

I tuned in to watch the last couple of games of the second set. Ryan was woeful, and this continued into the start of the decider.  He was way, way too cautious and and being defensive whhen the ball was begging to be hit. I stopped watching, I didn't want to see our guy take a thumping, especially when his mindset / gameplan was so wrong. I thought perhaps I might be making a comment about how rare two bagels are in men's tennis, especially in three setters. So, I went off for a while, did some other stuff.  When I returned to my screen to check some of the other scores I was astonished!!!

I discovered something about my personal preferences (relax, I'm only talking about sport!). Usually, I dislike watching recorded sport, it is just not the same as experiencing it live. If I had continued watching after he had gone 2-0 down in the third, I would have  been unhappy with every instance of poor shot selection or poor execution.  Watching half an hour after the event was great!  Ryan misses an easy forehand? It doesn't matter! Ryan hits a DF?  It doesn't matter! Cerundolo hits a monster pass?  It doesn't matter!

Ryan mate, I am so sorry for doubting you!
