Week 23 - WTA250 - Nottingham, UK Grass

Heather and Harriet have withdrawn from the doubles (presumably Heather protecting that leg).

Is that the best collective performance from the GB girls since last year's US Open qualifying?

Ironic the two best performers of the past year (Emma and Sonay) have the toughest draws.

Should have been going to spectate today but then along came an in-person hospital appointment at 3.40pm which meant that I would have ended up spending almost as much time driving there and back as spectating cry never mind....just watching Sonay on Prime, looks to be giving a decent account of herself. Several breaks of serve but now 3*-4....

Sonay had a break point at 4-4* but it was snuffed out.

4-6 *0-3

Eden also giving a good account of herself 4-6 2-3*

Sonay lost 6-4 6-3 after breaking back at 1-5*.

Eden lost 4 and 4.

Given the vast amount of experience Giorgi was bringing to the table compared to Sonay it was always going to be tough. She certainly made a match of it though, worthy of a Wimbledon MDWC IMHO.

Yes, sometimes Giorgi just hits patches of ridiculousness and she's handy on grass. Good effort.

I thought both our players (Eden and Sonay) did exactly what they had to - they made themselves difficult to beat, gave themselves a chance, showed some good attack, hung in there after points when they were blown off the court - a very commendable performance from both

And there's already an MTO for Emma, something to do with her ribs on the left-hand side....

Did she get injured in first few games or come out injured?

Sadly this seems to get ever more disappointing (and probably dispiriting) for her.
I am sure she will want to get through Wimbledon and defend at the US Open but after that I think she should take a long stretch off, get her body sorted and then come back fully refreshed for 2023.
