I was looking at Andy's ranking points and I have to say the ATP make it very difficult to understand. Can anyone please explain why Andy has to include a mandatory zero counter for Roland Garros where he didn't play, but doesn't have to count last year's US Open where he lost in the first round?

im guessing but presumably he was high enough ranked for the FO to be in as of right if he had chosen to play and that high enough ranking made it mandatory. As Brendan F says, he wasnt high enough ranked for USO, he got a WC and as such that would mean it isnt mandatory?
