Week 25 - ATP 250 - Rothesay International - Devonshire Park, Eastbourne, Great Britain (grass)

Brilliant.

But not that unexpected - still remember Rune absolutely throwing his toys out of the pram on grass in junior wimbly.
Only a couple of years ago.
He's fragile on grass, I think

But a stonking win for Ryan, thoroughly enjoyed it

Well done, Ryan, fought hard and pulled out that tie breaker. Maybe he can do this and surprise me!

Good of Ryan to surprise you like that smilesmilesmile

Ha, that is WR 5, 29 and 42 in the past week, I think we can take that!

Has a Spaniard next, most likely ADF, who did well on grass last week I think, but for now, that will do!

Given Jaffas defence of Harriet, I'd assume that's a remark aimed at some comments made about Ryan previously rather than what Jaffa thinks themselves

Yes, there was a few comments last week about Ryan that I didn't agree with and I gave my defence for why.

It seems that you have to be a stereotype to have success in tennis these days. Or that's what is perceived anyway.

One particular comment that riled me last week was that someone said 'he is ranked 100-200 for a reason, he has limitations'.

The reality is, Ryan hasn't been ranked in that space for a long period of time compared to Jay or Liam.

He has a very different game to a lot of the big guns, and for some reason people write him off because of it. I don't understand it. I just hope he keeps winning!

Ryan reminds me a little of Cam Norrie in some ways.....

Maybe it's the leftiness, maybe the US college profile...

But I think it's more that both are the sort of player where their total value is worth more than the individual sum of the parts

Ryan is now up to live 103 in this year's race. And for a reason - he keeps winning tennis matches this year, and some very good ones.

Yes that comment riled me too Jaffa. I decided best to keep my own counsel but glad to see I was not alone in it getting under my skin!

Guys, firstly I want to apologise, I hadn't remembered, but it was me that said that. I actually wrote this in the link below: I may have been clumsy and , first thing to say, is that I am a big fan of Ryan, I really am. I was trying to say he isnt blessed with the big game of a Jack Draper and isnt blessed with that ability to win matches and rise up the rankings based on that power and big game - but he has fight and desire and he has smarts. I was trying to say he is ranked 100-200 at the moment because that is where he is at right now, he isn't a Tour level player yet - but he may well get there.

I hope I didn't upset anyone too much and I truly didnt mean to cause any hurt.

I am glad Ryan won today, I was actually surprised he did, but very pleasantly surprised and I hope he can go on and have the career he deserves.

This is what I wrote at the time and I hope you can tell it wasnt supposed to be insulting to Ryan. It is halfway down page 14 in case anyone wants to tear me apart - sorry once again if it was taken the wrong way

Hey Jon, I remember you writing some very nice things about Ryan in the past and also commenting on his story. So I didn't take it in a bad way. It's easy to misunderstand / misinterpret on these forums.
