The level of insight the BBC are offering, even Inverdale, in these qualies is much better and more interesting. We don't get this for Wimbledon, it is much more aimed at the afficionado here.

Sorry, SC, the guy's American, he doesn't seems to follow Spanish family name rules, he uses his whole name, all the time, (which is his father's whole name as his mother's family name is Ballve) and I guess it's his choice, so just for completeness if anyone's looking at this in months to come:

Ive got the qualifying on in the background on my laptop. They just interviewed some guy that hosts Lukas Rosol. I have to say, the presentation and stories of the qualifying has been so good all week, the BBC deserve kudos for this - they tend to get criticised quite often, but this has been the best week of tennis watching I have had, just the stories, the insight and the focus on these lower ranked players is marvellous
It's a shame that no British player will win through qualifying this year in men's or ladies events. You can hear the usual moans from people who barely follow tennis about the state of GB Tennis. But personally I think both the men's and ladies game here in the UK is really on the up right now. Progress being made by players at all levels.

Indeed, read a classic throwaway comment on twitter that it's the usual 3 weeks of British tennis high which will be followed by mediocrity for the rest of the year. Just have to take Jack Draper and Ryan Peniston to see their form over the grass is not a flash in the pan. After Wimbledon last year Jack was 256 in the world at the start of this years grass 106. Ryan was 367 at the end of Wimbledon last year and at the start of the grass 197. The last 12 months both put themselves in a great position to take advantage of this years wildcards.

I totally agree. I think it is a drip, drip effect. When you look down the men's rankings we have so many young guys that are week on week pushing each other upward and even the older guys are showing it's never too late to reach a new career high.True tennis fans know it is not just about the top 100. Football is not just about the Premiership. I have respect for a player who might never make it to Wimbledon but they work their ass off to become the best player they can and if that means they only get as high as #500 then that's okay. Knowing you left it all out there. These younger players do seem to work and fight harder. The knock on effect is we are seeing overall more players in the top 1000, 500, 300 etc. I watched the guys at Nottingham the other week and saw Liam Broady play. He looked so good for a player who has never been in the worlds top 100. I wouldn't want to face his serve. Respect to them all.
