Very encouraged by Kedders start here. If I look at the comebacks after long layoffs of players like Coric and Thiem, they were struggling at Challengers at the beginning, and their ranking just stagnated. I hope it's the case that Kyle has waited till he is absolutely ready to compete to get back into the top 100 efficiently without setbacks. Best of luck to him
L16: (1) Liam Broady WR 132 vs (Q) Govind Nanda (IND) WR 453 (CH = 327 last week)
L16: (Q) Alafia Ayeni (USA) WR 695 (CH = 436 in July 2019) vs (Q) Kyle Edmund WR 496
L16: Aidan McHugh WR 330 vs Enzo Couacaud (FRA) WR 230 (CH = 155 in February)
Couacaud was born in the delightfully named town of Curepipe ( ) (also known as La Ville Lumière ["City of Light"], just like Paris) in Mauritius. He got past the third seed, Pospisil, when the Canadian retired at 0-4 in the third set.
After numerous reschedules with a steadily reduced schedule, and I believe Kyle very nearly starting on at least one occasion, all has been pushed back until Thursday.
L16: (Q) Alafia Ayeni (USA) WR 695 defeated (Q) Kyle Edmund WR 496 by 7-6(6) 6-2
Early days - remembering of course that kyles live ranking is mid 600s so we should expect too much at this stage. Job done for this week Id say.
Early days indeed given how long Kyle has been out.
That's what's meanngful and how he can now begin to pick up his game and progress over the coming months. His live ranking though is meaningless regarding expectations, his live 34 points being simply his one remaining previous counter of 23 points ( ATP Canada Masters 2019 which will drop off in another week, on 08/08 ) plus his 11 points from here. So his live points at the start of next week will be just these 11 and FWIW a provisional ranking then in the 900s from one counter.
