L48: Jack Draper WR 81 defeated (WC) Stefan Kozlov (USA) WR 111 by 5 & 2
*****
L32: (1) Andrey Rublev (***) WR 8 (CH = 5 last September) vs Jack Draper WR 817-6(8)
A decent enough 1R win for Jack Drapper.
(Well thats what the umpire seemed to be calling him....).
But my word, how his WR has taken a tumble. That must be heartbreaking after all the hard work he's put in. Don't think well be seeing him in the MD at Flushing Meadow now
(Edit - this post is only meant to be light hearted and tongue-in-cheek - having seen the debate on the Nottingham thread ).

It really does not seem to be happening for Andy. What can you say about this match.
He played, gave his best but ultimately lost.
I love Andy to bits for all he has done and it's his choice to keep playing. I respect that.
But, deep down, I don't see him getting right back up there inside the worlds top 30 or even 20.
I want to be wrong but time marches on and the reality is that Andy is not the player he was.
I can't even see him being seeded for the US Open tbh.
Hopefully, now I have said all this, Andy will go on a big run next week and prove me wrong.

I'm feeling the same about Andy now, I must admit. I look to his score and apart from mild disappointment, am not at all surprised he has lost. Getting into the top 50 has been a big old haul and clearly he isnt going to give up anytime soon. My personal feeling is , though, there must come a time when he says he has given it his best shot and it is time to move on - I don't see him travelling the world playing doubles, I would like to see him play the odd doubles event though. I think he will give it through next year, maybe to Wimbledon or the US Open (most likely the US Open) and play one last year.

And I didn't take it any other way. I've no idea how that "7-6(8)" got there!

He needs to change how he's playing. I'm not sure why he wanted to rally so much last night! If he can do that, he has a chance IMO.
