Week 31 - ATP 500 - Citi Open, Washington, USA (hard)

I went to sleep at end of second set and it still felt anyones
Match.
Thats a real shame, I wonder what it is with Nishioka? He seemed very consistent in his play but no massive weapons.

It really does not seem to be happening for Andy. What can you say about this match.
He played, gave his best but ultimately lost.
I love Andy to bits for all he has done and it's his choice to keep playing. I respect that.
But, deep down, I don't see him getting right back up there inside the worlds top 30 or even 20.
I want to be wrong but time marches on and the reality is that Andy is not the player he was.
I can't even see him being seeded for the US Open tbh.

Hopefully, now I have said all this, Andy will go on a big run next week and prove me wrong.

Mikael Ymer is actually through to the semi finals to play Nick K.  (He has won all his 4 matches in 3 sets, winning the 1st and 3rd, dropping the 2nd!)

Yesterday wasn't Dan's day:

QF:  (4) Ivan Dodig & Austin Krajicek (CR)/USA) CR 35 (16+19) defeated Daniel Evans & John Peers (AUS) CR 330 (217+13) by 5-7 7-6(4) [10-6]

That looks like some battle!  hmm

Nishioka into the final where he plays Kyrgios. If kyrgios wins , Dan will remain at 39 in the rankings this week. Kyrgios is also in the mens doubles final.

For some reason Dan seems to struggle more against those players than the bigger guys hence why he has such a bad record against Nishioka and also a losing record against Corentin Moutet.

Nick K took both titles and will go above Dan in the singles ranks. Could be seeded at us open.

To be fair to Nick he of course got no benefit at all in the rankings from his Wimbledon final.
