Week 32 - ATP Masters 1000 - National Bank Open - Montréal, Canada (hard) - doubles

Dan and Peers join Neal in the semis with another great win. Neal is playing around 5 pm our time, Dan is on in the early hours. They play Hurkacz and Zielinski, who is a new name to me. Hurkacz also having a good week.

Dan really did get shafted with scheduling. It's really poor of the organisers that he has to play both his semis in the late matches while his potential opponents in both singles and doubles get the early matches

Hurkacz has made the final so if Dan wins at least he'll be getting to bed at the same time as his opponent as the Pole is playing Dan in the doubles semi.

I guess they planned one singles and doubles in the day time and evening sessions. The Dan v Hurkacz doubles obviously needed to be after their respective singles and thus last on. And one of Dan or Hurkacz would therefore need to play the evening singles.

just the way the cookie crumbles, one of them was going to get two evening matches.

Brilliant -  nicely returning to form after a quieter spell recently . Lets hope Dan can make it a British final.

Dan may actually prefer his schedule to Hurkacz's with the Pole playing his singles a good deal earlier but still having to come back and finish his day at the same time as Dan? I wonder if they maybe swapped around the afternoon singles and doubles to give Hurkacz at least a later singles match than he might have had and they have equated things as much ad they could.

Whatever, as Jon says, with the no doubt pre-arranged day and night schedule, it was one or the other schedule for each.

In the latest rankings Neal is up to a CH of WR 4 and Dan back into the top 100 at WR 98.

There is a real chance that Neal could be WR 1 with a good Cincy and US Open ( maybe even if he just does decently depending on who picks up the big points ). He is only 35 points behind WR 3 Wesley and Wesley's extra 2021 Cincinnati and US Open points due to drop off will see Neal pass Wesley as long as he simply matches up by partnering him! Plus current WRs 1 & 2 Joe and Rajeev are the defending US Open champions so due to drop 2000 points from that.

Well done Neal and Wes, and Evo, and that is a good analysis , Indy.

id like my number one to be a slam winner, so hope Neal wins the US Open in the process
