What a rise.

Went through a very barren time for almost a year in the senior game and then boom in the spring and keeps on climbing.

It's been great to see and trajectories like this ate worth bearing in mind before folk get too negative about other young players, especially say still 15/16 yos.

There can be much more going on than a barren period for wins and points.

I always found its strange that Ella didnt have a better start to her senior career based on what I saw of watching her. But maybe it took that hardship and working at it to get where she has gotten too.

Very exciting times for 2025.

Ella is currently showing as GB #10 for Monday. Emily Appleton has some points off and drops to #11.

Two players I wouldn't have expected to be in the GB top ten. Well done both biggrin

I'm sorry  I have just checked back to the first page of predictions and there are 3 people who have Ella in their top 10, I have her at no. 8.

TA's post is from Dec 7th last year so must be referring to the 2024 predictions. And I assume you are referring to 2025?

You are correct Indi - the 2025 predictions thread didn't start until December 10th.
22 people picked Ella and 3 picked Emily in their 2025 predictions.

It feels like Ella has been absent for quite a while, but in fact she last played in Wimbledon qualifying R1.

Ella Mcdonald chooses to go the US college route, signing for Louisiana State University, joining in January.

A little unexpected perhaps, but theres been a trend in womens college tennis over the last year to sign mid to high ranked 19 , 20, 21 year olds, with LSU being the most prominent in this trend. Ella will be their 4th top 600 WTA player on their roster joining Cadence Brace, Kayla Cross and fellow freshman Carolina Kuhl. LSU this year did allow Cadence, and in particular Kayla, to play more pro events during the spring season than most teams would have done. Whether this remains the case, which Ella can take advantage of, or LSU learnt it hurt them and won't allow it so much next year remains to be seen..
