Dont to where to put this but looks as though Azarenka, Venus and Kerber may all be about to announce retirement. End of an era indeed.

Azarenka announces a podcast. Venus is apparently carrying on into 2023. Nobody knows about Kerber.

I'm tired of rudeness on this board, so see ya

Well that worked out well. FW has deleted her account.

Which is a big shame, I for one like FW.

Ho hum.

That's a great pity, always sad when one of the longer-standing members leaves (five years). I hope she looks in as a guest occasionally.

All the best FW, just in case you take a look.

Isn't that two members that have left this forum in recent weeks.
Makes you feel nervous to give an opinion on anything here.

I think we have to be careful not to liken this to some of the wild west boards like MTF/TF that are out there, let's be realistic!!! I think we are quite mild generally but...

yes, definitely, Rich, we need to consider how we say things and what we say - as a group, the truth is that none of us know each other as people and we dont get the signals you get in face to face interractions. We should always be respectful of the fact that we are strangers in part and , in real life, we would treat strangers with a modicum of respect and gentleness that is sometimes easy to forget.

I dont think when things come across as curt or edgy that people really mean them to come over in that way, and we can often react too quickly or take things to heart - I know I sometimes do!

If we have no opinions, and no personality, then we have no forum.

Downright rudeness is obviously not acceptable but there's a lot of wriggle-room in what is considered rude and we don't all have to agree on what that is.

You give your opinions, Rich, in your own style smile

Discussion is when one person states their view an another replies stating theirs. In other words, exactly what happened here. If you don't like someone stating alternative views, then don't comment. The reply you got was entirely polite, and based on new information - literally the definition of a reasonable contribution to a discussion. It's important, for discussion to work, that people don't mistake rational disagreement with personal attacks.

I respect others opinions here. I have already in my short time said something where others have a different view. But like you say we are all going to have our own opinions on many things.
I don't like to see anyone feel upset and stop commenting.
I used to read here a lot before I joined and really like this forum.
Personally I have only seen one poster who causes friction here.
Name begins with a V
Enough said.
Happy days everyone.

That is very sad re FW. I would love to see and hear from her again.

A particular pity that it was ultimately a result of to me a kind of strange unnecessary reply to her. I'd say that rude / semi aggressive posts are thankfully pretty rare on here compared to much of the rest of social media and that makes it a haven that I would love to keep and for others to respect.

I'm all for a good discussion or indeed argument as some folk might have noticed. One thing I have learned over time on platforms such as this is personalising it as little as possible helps. On other platforms I can err adapt.

Yes, we lost two new members recently. At the time I suggested maybe being particularly thoughtful when replying to new members. I didn't exactly get total support on that one with suggestions that they were both a bit over sensitive which was arguably true. But I stand by my original comments there and would like them to have had a chance to get past the first impressions that these replies gave them.

I too am really disappointed to see FW leave the forum as I felt she contributed a lot, but I have to agree that I don't think Jaggy said anything which might cause offence and trigger such a strong response. I hope all is well with FW and there aren't other issues which are making life difficult. I have only seen one poster who I felt was really offensive, but they were a J rather than a V and I haven't seen anything of them for quite a while. I always feel everyone else shows respect to others even when we don't agree.
