I saw a bit of Cam's match last night, and it seemed that he had just too much consistency for Ben, especially in the longer rallies. I will note Ben with interest though and wish him well.
I'm looking forward to the match against Alcaraz, as Jon says, nothing to lose, but it will a better measure of how Cam is playing than his previous matches.
On a slightly different note, is NoJo banned from the States at the moment?
Yep, they require a Covid vaccine for entry. Hes taking until the last minute to withdraw though, it seems, so is still in the US entry list. Dan is live ranked 22 and should be seeded 21 or so in the US Open. Cam is back to live 10 and could be seeded 9.
Thanks. I was wondering how point penalties work for him as it's not like he doesn't want to play, but arguably that he can't.
Of course he can: he can just obey the laws of the country that he wishes to visit and get vaccinated
Just Wow !!! Cam Norrie, what a tonic watching that was. And I put a wee bet on half way through, so £30 towards the new tyre I had to buy today which blew between my mum,s nursing home and her house ......... at least not on the motorway.
Recommend watching replay, some outstanding tennis from both.

Already guaranteed at least a CH of WR 9 on Monday, Cam will be WR 8 if he reaches the final here.
So, with no Djokovic and possibly no Zverev either, he will be a top 8 seed at the US Open and getting in quite a lot of his defence early for his 2021 Indian Wells title points that come off in October.
Could he yet cover that whole 1000 points?! Then maybe add in quite a few more at the US Open ( where he exited in straight sets in R1 last year to a certain Carlos Alcaraz )

That was not in my memory bank at all.
Nor mine to be honest. But I had looked back to see who caused that R1 exit last year.

Cam would also be 6th in the Race with Wimbledon points added in and looking to Turin in a few months time. As it is , he is 11th although it is v tight this year. With just one masters to come, in Paris, we may see more action for the Turin places take place at 250 level than is normally the case

I guess poor Djokovic should get the hypothetical benefit too. So Cam would be 7th in the adjusted live race with the next 4 players then within 240 points of him including the banned Rublev and the runner-up Kyrgios.
Stu Fraser's account of the Alacaraz match. Some interesting comments by Cam on his approach to the match.
A comment by a reader who seems to know what he's talking about & which doesn't appear in the Archive version:
Surely the best match of Norrie's career (if you set aside several sub-slam final wins). Firstly he was playing World #4 who widely is considered to be the best of his generation, destined to become #1 and to win multiple slams. Alcaraz finds himself on the cusp of eclipsing his compatriot Rafa Nadal. Indeed he seems to emulate many of Rafa's best attributes - eg hugely athletic, fighting for every point, though thankfully without the somewhat tedious mannerisms of his idol. Norrie has become one of the fittest professionals on the circuit and that perhaps was the difference last night. It was a truly memorable contest - full of power, finesse and good sportsmanship. Above all Cameron showed he could live inside the top 10 and hopefully is able to make the end of season tournament on merit alone by a deep run at the US Open in a couple of weeks.
Finally I want to praise the automatic line-calling system. Why, oh why can't all slams follow the system? Tennis does not need the ridiculous drama of the challenge system nor its capacity to waste time.
I was intrigued by that last paragraph. I haven't seen any of the coverage of the tournament, so was unaware that an automatic line-callng system was in use.
