Harry may have lost, but Giles took the second set tie-break (9-7) to level the match.

Thoroughly enjoyed that second set - well done Maxy !

6-4 6-4 win

Into the semis

I've always liked Max's agility and natural ball-striking, and the way he loves to come forward to the net - rather like Arthur Féry in that regard - probably why they've both been little faves for a while.

Sometimes he seems to go into 'ultra cool' mode and mooch around a bit but I haven't seen that for a while.

Lovely to see him having a run, and making his mark, rather like Toby Samuel has this summer

QF:  (WC) Max Basing WR 924 def. Adriŕ Soriano (ESP) WR 644  6-4 6-4

Rather an odd final, how about Giles Hussey & Joe Tyler CR (1839, 652 + 1087) vs (2) Arthur Fery & Mark Whitehouse Cr 1027 (613+414)

I thought both our men in the singles today would probably get hammered

And it's true they've both lost the first set, and were both always behind, having got broken early

BUT they both lost it 4-6, and the rallies were good, holding their own, hitting winners and forcing the points at time, defending reasonably - not at all completely one-sided

However, Leshem sneaks in all the time on Giles' backhand, difficult for him to protect it.

And Hoang is a bit too classy for Max at the moment, when on song (although Hoang has had a really bad run recently, and Max is good at hanging in there - he could well cause trouble in the second)

Giles mounting a fight-back, though, having taken the second set by 6-3.
