Oh gosh, Emma Vs Cornet - an experienced, top 40 player who loves a big stage and has her share of upsets. And the rest of the 1/16th ain't lovely.
And Harriet vs Kasatkina.
Ugh.
I think ugh might be understating it a tad.
Kasatkina is so much improved over the last 12 months it is hard to see Harriet having much joy.
Cornet will relish this match up. She just loves a big stage and upsetting higher ranked players though a win over Emma wouldn't be that much of an upset apart from on paper.
Let's hope Katie and Heather can get through and get decent draws or our interest could well end in round 1.
Shocking set 3-6. Very poor, and as you say CD, looks incredibly slow. Perhaps having a day she isn't feeling great, always difficult with the condition she has, I imagine it can just flare up anytime.
But still time to turn this around. Heather also about to start.
This is one of the worst performances I have ever seen from Katie. Just looks to be totally empty, no timing, no attack. Hope the chronic fatigue syndrome hasn't struck again, but that, or maybe some sort of bug, would explain a lot. She certainly didn't look to be carrying a niggle.
*2-4
Diatchenko is being dependably messy so far, but there's always a risk she pulls it together. Heather takes the set on a foot fault induced double.
Shame Katie effectively gave up after losing that long game and threw away the next two to go 2-5* down without much of a fight. Still had the chance to turn it round.
Heather was up a break in the second, but broken back.
