Rublev beat Shapovalov in an over 4 hours match finally settled 10-7 in a 5th set MTB.

I thought Shapo was going to prevail at several points in that fifth set.

Thinks this might be curtains for Dan now .

Should have taken his chance in the tie-break to really make Cilic pay for not taking those earlier set points . I suspect Cilic would have imploded if Dan had taken that first set .

Pity biut still got a very decent chance I reckon, as I was on the point of saying anyway before he got an early second set break of serve.

6-7(11) *2-0

 And still say at *2-2

One of the first times in ages Ive been able to watch a match from the start.

The standard in this has been exceptional, Cilic has raised his level a lot from 4-5 in the second set and has just broken Dan to serve for the second set.

Well, Dan broke straight back and played an excellent breaker. 1 set all, 2:23 on the clock.

Dan had 0-40 at 1-1 and has hardly won a point since, not that Dan has done too much wrong to be fair.

That first set was a real big deal - major incomprehensible mess-ups by both players in the tie-break - but you always thought that the Cilic would win after he'd managed to take it.

So, the last 16 is the revealing round, in my opinion. The top countries in men's tennis are as follows:

Last 16

Spain - 4

Russia - 3

Italy - 2

USA - 1

Belorussia - 1

Norway - 1
Croatia - 1
France -1
Australia - 1
GB - 1

THat's also Europe 14: Rest of the World 2

Worth noting that there's a LL in that last 16. First time ever?

Unseeded: 4
Seeded: 12

There's a wide age range if you look at the outliers - oldest is 36, youngest is 19
But the bulk are far closer, although with a younger bent ....

The mean average age is 26.125

Three aged 30 or over
Two aged 21 or under

Also, a tall bunch -

Only one guy out of 16 is under 6 ft (183cm) - and that's Moutet (175cm) who's the LL

6 are over 190cm

The average is height is 189 cm

Dan lost nothing in defeat ( apart from the match ) and toughed it out in typical style against a pretty good chilly. Don't see his ranking improving much now though looking forward. Hope I m wrong

Love Evo to bits but hes maximised his weapons and I think hed be so happy to a) reach the top 20 for a bit and b) reach the last 8 in a slam next season. I reckon he must have another year or so where he plays at the top and can achieve that . Hes playing well right now and had a great us open.

I liked it when he dived sidewards ( think Becker ) only at the back  of the court and Greg shouted " How about putting a bit of effort into it Dan ! " lol. Well it made me laugh

Off to see Norrie tomorrow before heading home on Tuesday. Hope we get to see a bit of Glasspool and Skupski matches too.

Weekend was ridiculously expensive but lucked out again. Been a great trip. Highly recommend

I'm a big believer in doing the things you really want to do and blow the cost.  If I'd got all the tickets I applied for at the London Olympics, I would have been bankrupt but it was a once in a lifetime event and life is not a dress rehearsal.
