Tiafoe ! So pleased ! Marvellous !

 Absolutely !

Watched most of that match - and REALLY enjoyed it - as people said, Frances is a good guy, with a great back story, and a really funky style of tennis - and he's playing in front of his home crowd - and I like Nadal, don't agree at all with the bad guy bit, BUT I find it hard to care too much whether the oldies win or not - they've won so much already..... (and I had a little flutter so all lovely)

Alcaraz won at 2.24 am, 4th latest finish in US Open history.

Hes also the 5th youngest ever top 3 player and, if he wins the Open and makes number one with it, hell be the youngest ever number one.

The King is dead, long live the King , as they used to say.

Seriously, the big 3 are closing to a finish clearly, I know theyve won the previous 3 slams this season, but you can see it slowing down. Fed is surely done, Nadal spoke last night like it was almost done, Djoko seems to be on a mission to play as few slams as possible. Alcaraz and Sinner and Draper and maybe for a year or two Kyrgios are the future Kings, the Medvedev, Zverev, Thiem, Tsitsipas will quickly get passed.

But it feels like mens tennis is in good hands.

Following on from the last 16 men being younger than the last 16 women, by a full year (the first time I ever remember it happening), the last eight now have Nick Kyrgios as the oldest player.
And Nick is 'only' 27 years and 4 months

So, the actual ages of the last eight are:

19 - 21 - 23 - 24 - 24 - 26 - 26 - 27

They're a bunch of spring chickens !

I guess the thing is the golden generation are indeed moving on and the crap generation have never really arrived. So to the younger lot and let's hope for some great years coming up and some great rivalries.

Bugger, bugger, bugger:  Ruud (5) beats Berrettini (13), a personal favourite, in straight sets - 6-1 7-6(4) 6-4.  cry

Berrettinni never looked like winning that third set tie-break. I reckon he ran out of steam (after effects of covid this summer ?)

Hats off to Khachanov who wins a five setter over Nick K to play Ruud in the semis.

Career best slam for Khachanov. Russians will be happy Im sure. Still not sure about letting them play these events, hopefully we wont get a Russian champion.

Absolutely. I'd have bet on him to win that the way the match was poised.

Tiafoe a very popular winner of the first set here against Andrey Rublev.

He wins the second tie break to love and the crowd goes wild (orchestrated by Tiafoe) they so desperately want an American to make the semi finals here.

 Sinner Alcaraz?

Yes - got it on in the background - dipping in and out - great stuff

But LOVED the Tiafoe match - really really enjoyed that one - Frances had Rublev in tears - he was so bamboozled as to what to do....
