Weeks 35 & 36 - US Open, Flushing Meadows, New York City (hard)

Fuming at Sinner. I've got an interview at 8.30am, he should've wrapped it up and now I'm going to miss the last set:( :)

Yeah, he really had it done and dusted

And ridiculous, really, that they're still playing at 2 am

But good luck with the interview ! smile

QF:  (3) Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) WR 4 defeated (11) Jannik Sinner (ITA) WR 13 by 6-3 6-7(2) 6-7(0) 7-5 6-3 in five hours & 13 minutes.    The match eventually finished at 02.50 New York time, the latest ever, according to the Beeb.

My two picks were Garcia and Alcaraz at the start, not a gambling man but potentially could have been quids in. No idea what the odds on either were at the start.

The quality of the match between Alcaraz and Sinner shows the future as we slowly move away from Fed, Rafa, Novak etc is secure if we keep getting battles like that.

Yes, agreed.  I was stunned by the quality of what I saw.  It was so even too, in different ways, almost like an orchestrated show ( which of course no way was it).

For the life of me I cannot remember seeing Karen Khachanov play before. I missed the Jack Draper and Nick Kyrgios matches because it was early hours and he wasn't at Wimbledon because he's Russian. Reports I read said that Draper would have won if he hadn't got injured, yet here is Khachanov in the semi final.

Don't know why I'm getting huge subtitles on Amazon Prime blocking out quarter of the court confuse

Casper Ruud takes first set 7-5 on a tie break. There have been numerous breaks of serve in the set, not sure if it was 4 or 6 but all that matters is it all evened itself out so we ended up with that extraordinary tie break and that 20 plus exchange on the final point.

Sorry I can't give you exact statistics as I'm watching it on a foreign stream and don't understand the lingo but it's better than those subtitles obscuring the court during play.

These two are well matched.

You can knock that out.  Go to the little  symbol things top right of your screen.  The one on the left is a rectangle with a tail. Click on that and disable subtitles !!

Thanks Julia I will look at that.

I look silly saying they are well matched after the second set goes to Casper Ruud 6-2 with two breaks of serve. That first set was decided by one break of serve in the tie break only but it seems like something got broken in Khachanov's resolve in that final long rally of the tie break.

That's tennis folks.

You cannot give Ruud time to place his shot. He is lethal if he has time at his disposal. I can't see him losing from here.

Ruuds forehand is incredible.

That 55 shot rally on set point was a corker too!

(You maybe need to point with the mouse around that area to get the symbols to appear)
