Thanks Julia your advice worked! Martina is back on commentary.
We are back to being evenly matched in the third set but Khachanov - with nothing to lose - plays better on his serve than Ruud whose standard of play slips a little. Khachanov gets the break and takes the set 7-5. A long road to conquer from here but at least it's looking possible now.
Would really have preferred to watch the other semi-final but it's on too late for me
With Alcaraz winning the second SF, like the men's doubles with the two top ranked pairs, the final will feature Monday's top two in the rankings with again the winner being WR 1.
Additionally, the women's singles final will feature Monday's WR 1 and 2 and the women's doubles final will feature Monday's top ranked pair.
The final is one set all as it's nearing eleven pm. If this is going to be another one of Carlos Alcaraz's five set thrillers there's no way I can stay up to see the end of it.
So Carlos Alcaraz duly won by 6-4 2-6 7-6(1) 6-3 for his maiden Slam title. He also becomes the youngest WR 1 in ATP rankings history.
All 4 of the men's singles and doubles and women's singles and doubles champions will also be the latest WR 1 player or pair and in 3 cases the RU will be #2.
