I assumed, given her performance, that being seeded 10 was just an error with copy and paste but then I looked it up. How does a top 10 player play as badly as that? No disrespect to Harriet who did what she needed to but the error count was huge.
I must admit, I am slowly moving away from the sport, and this is the least interested / invested I have been in a slam for around 6/7 years, and haven't watched a match yet, but regardless of how Kasatkina played, that's an incredible result for Harriet, and must be right up there with the best wins by a British woman at main draw level this year. I saw she was a break down in the decider after just conceding a breakstick set, and I was literally stunned when I saw the final result. Fantastic for her, and seemingly a chance to go further.
Possibly the only player on tour to have lost to someone ranked in the 700s and then beaten a top tenner in the space of about 4 months, but never mind! More of the latter and less of the former please Harriet!
Kasatkina's serve was woeful. How on earth she is Top 10 I do not know. But it gives hopes to others that they can do it too. Her results of last 5 tournaments or so are lost 1r, WON, lost 1r, lost 1r, WON. Seems that when she is on... she is on. The rest of the time she doesnt turn up at all.
But none of this should take away from a brilliant victory from Harriet who was clearly struggling physically at points. Such a gritty player. Everything crossed for the next round for her
It's been a long time since I've visited... seems to be great timing though...
You need to visit more often - you're obviously a good luck charm
Didn't watch the third set (as someone said, it had been a pretty poor match up to then) but - who cares - it's the ups and downs of tennis - brilliant result for Harriet, thoroughly deserved, if K wants to hit the ball out that's her right
What a lovely surprise to wake up to. I went to sleep at one set all as could no longer stay awake.
All Harriets hard work she puts in finally landing her a big scalp.
