Team Tennis National Finals

The Team Tennis finals start today with eight men's teams battling for the title at West Hants. 13 world ranked players have been nominated: Charles Broom, Alexis Canter, Jay Clarke, Scott Duncan, Arthur Fery, Jack Gibbens, George Houghton, Alex Jhun, Dan Little, Anton Matusevich, Brandon Murphy, Ryan Storrie and Oscar Weightman. Some great tennis to see and no entry fee.

In a rain delayed first day at West Hants the holders Sutton, second seeded David Lloyd Raynes Park and Newlands all reached the semi finals with convincing 4-0 victories. Newlands' win was the only upset of the day as it was against the fourth seeded Cardiff.

The holders Sutton maintained their 100 per cent record in the 2022 finals by beating the higher seeded David Lloyd Raynes Park by 4-0 in the semis. They will play top seeded Roehampton tomorrow who defeated Newlands by 5-1. The two all-ATP ranked matches featured wins for Alexis Canter against Jack Gibbens and for Brandon Murphy who overcame a 400 place ranking difference to defeat Daniel Little.

In today's final top seeds Roehampton defeated third seeds and holders Sutton by 4-0. The matches were, however, significantly closer than this sounds. In particular Brandon Murphy nearly overcame a huge ranking gap against Charles Broom.  In front of an excited crowd of about 100 Charles won by 6-4 in the third to mean that, unusually, no doubles were played on finals day. Arthur Fery defeated Alexis Canter will less difficulty and there were also good wins for Anton Matusevich and George Houghton.
