Week 40 - ITF M25 - Sheffield, Great Britain (indoor hard)

Anton against Gunneswaran is a very interesting opportunity. Arthur F v Dan Cox is another great tie here

That is a shame - I thought Anton would run him close and it was 3 sets but looks like the experienced Indian went away at the end

George put up a decent show

The bits I saw were good tennis

BUT he stands too far back - he always did, even as a junior - used to drive me mad

And he still does

It makes him very vulnerable to drop shots, which killed him in this match, or any short angles

But still promising overall, showing most definitely a level way better than his current ranking

No prizes for guessing which way that one's going to go.  furious

Giles for the upset.

Bob called it correctly!  biggrin

Yeh

Enjoyed that - and watching Brady/Erhard too

Giles deserved it - every Swede must get mashed at some point....

Pat Brady was unlucky not to at least force a TB in the first set, which he lost 5-7

Got to a second set one.

Went 0-4 down instantly

Managed to turn at 2-4 (my "always get the point before you turn" adage )

Lucky point for Erhard, to make it 2-5

And then Pat won the next 5 points !!!!

Partly well played, partly coz Erhard took the risk of a service winner at 5-5 and ended up with a double fault.

But overall a nice two sets of tennis - and all to play for in the third - mentally, Pat will be more on the up but Erhard has some really nice tennis too, if he can keep his head in this

(NB nice to hear Pat has a couple of vocal supporters too )

Still needs to get past Ali Gray if he wants to make top 500

Or get past Ewan Moore

As said yesterday, he's playing very well at the minute

One set all....

The obvious money is on Ali, he's serving first and rankings talk

But he's being pushed...

George Houghton had two match points in the TB - the first one he'll be absolutely kicking himself over....

Into a third....

Similarly, Ewan had two break points in the middle of the third - which has had hardly any break opportunities bar that one - and the first point he got SO confused and befuddled - gave the point to Ali....
