So JoMo and Arthur get past their opening matches.
Am I correct in saying they would need to win 2 more matches each for top 500?

 I'll answer my own question.

Live rankings has Arthur on 61pts and JoMo on 58pts.

Assuming they don't have full counters, A QF win for Arthur would be enough.

For JoMo, a QF win would probably fall a couple of points short , so a SF win would be enough.

As with last week, there was a large turnout of French players - with not much to show for it....

Five in the first round this week.

A great result for Poullain, beating the top seed, it's true.

But all the other four lost. Including two who were beaten by far lower ranked guys

Hi CD - I hope you dont mind me asking this in open forum, but I have been trying to piece together your background! Not in a stalking way, but in a genuine interest way as you know a lot about tennis, French tennis and study players styles and attitudes, it seems.

I think - and may be wrong - that you are British but obviously lived in France for a while (may still live in France part time at least?) and worked or where involved in the French system? Not sure if that was as a professional capacity, or maybe as a very keen amateur? Are you still involved in the game in the UK or France at all?

Sorry for asking, I read your comments with interest and as one of the more frequent posters on this forum, it has been something I have been dying to ask!

Yes, used to live in France, for ages. Still do some of the time.
Was jointly in charge of youth tennis for my region for ten years or so. Mainly an administrative and policy role. Not part of the actual technical direct coaching team (heaven help - you should see my serve - I was thrilled to get a fozen shoulder - at least it gave me an excuse ). But I was on their committee, which dealt with detection, elite coaching etc. As well as on some adult tennis committees too.

Cool, thanks for sharing that. Are you involved in British tennis at all nowadays? Other than as a keen follower and fan?

Ben Jones played a cracking tie-break to take the first set off JoMo

Absolutely smashed those serves down....

That is well done by Ben, and quite a surprise to me! Dan Cox also took the opener off Giles Hussey, 7-5

Well, I think the take-away from that has to be: well done, Ben - that's two super results you've put out there, should be a new CH coming up, into the top-1000? - and great wildcard choice by the LTA

See you next week.

So Johannus won't be entering the top 500 for now, and Giles after entering next Monday will drop back out the following Monday since he has 10 points coming off.

Yes, it will be a CH for Ben and looks at least very close to the top 1000 wirh his 10 points so far for Monday week being on the bubble.

Arthur gets a win, after only playing the first set as the Israeli player had to retire.

Harry W beat Ewn easily.

Pat Brady lost
