L16: Daniel Evans & John Peers (AUS) CR 115 (83+32) defeated (1) Rajeev Ram (USA) & Joe Salisbury CR 3 (1+2) by 3 & 2
What on earth's happened to Joe & Rajeev?

QF: Daniel Evans & John Peers (AUS) CR 115 (83+32) vs (Q) Sander Gille & Joran Vliegen (BEL/BEL) CR 136 (60+76)
Well, they won the last two tournaments they played, including the US Open, so I'm not sure there's any need for concern - they just haven't played in a long time.
Peers was the MVP today I think, but Dan played really well too; Joe & Rajeev had some serving issues.
A shout out to the Vienna ball boys with their lacrosse style ball scoops!
A great innovation I have never seen before - well done Vienna :)
Actually, I remember seeing ballboys using badminton rackets with nets fixed to them when I was a kid, before I even started playing. This must have been in the late 70s. But I have to agree that it is a great idea! I don't understand whymore tournaments don't use this system. In just a few years' time, the ball boys will be out of a job (and hence have fewer excuses for not doing their homework). Little droids plastered in advertising logos will take their place. But I bet that Wimbledon will be the last tournament to adopt such technology!
With Joe & Rajeev losing in R1, if Neal & Wesley had also managed not to lose too but instead gone on to reach the final Neal would have been WR 1 by himself next Monday.
If if ...
Neal & Wesley though are now in pole position to be joint WR 1 when last year's Paris and ATP Finals points come off.
They also though looked to be in pole position going into the US Open before Joe & Rajeev retained that title.

Feels a bit like stumbling over the line. Not sure if nerves play a part but it does seem both pairs are making a pigs ear of this!
I watched the Dan v Joe match through last night. Dan wasnt particularly good, in fact the match wasnt particularly good. But Dan seemed very relaxed, Peers was solid, Joe seemed v tight and Rajeev seemed just way off. Not sure if Dan just got to Joe mentally or whether it was a bad day at the office!
