In an event of this level, all those opening matches are winnable. It then depends how the draw opens up.
All of them are potential losses as well, of course! 18 of top 20 here. Entry cut off is Jack at 49. Take away the 4 wildcards and that is 45 of top 49 all playing in main draw. 47 of top 50 if we include qualies . High quality field
Not British, but I see Arthur Fils has qualified for main draw. Well done to him and someone I believe CD follows?
Only as one of the several 'great young French hopes'
No particular connection to him
And certainly can't make any claim to having 'talent-spotted' him
He's a nice-looking lad though, with a good game, the sort of game that will move well to adult tennis
And with him and the likes of Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (with whom Arthur won the dubs at the Junior French Open), it's rather nice to see some new young black players, especially amongst the boys (on a global scale, there seems to be an excellent pipeline of young black female players but a real shortage amongst the boys)
Medvedev qualifies for Turin and FAA will if he wins one more game in his Swiss final.
One place will remain , between Rublev, Hurkacz and Fritz (all in top half in Paris) and Cam will be out. FAA is 6-5 up and serving second set so almost there in the Basle final.
Last match or not , its a war of attrition - not that one would expect anything different from these two. First sets are two hours in ( and its not quite two sets yet in fact)
Saw a bit of it Andy was ragged and was 5-3 up second set after winning first set , Simon kept ball in play and Andy seemed to be all over the place not a great end of season
