Ps apologies that my typing doesnt always flow , with poor use of capital letters etc. I use my phone and find I make a few
Mistakes (like I have just done with mistake) and, genuinely, dont have the energy to correct them. I hope that doesnt upset people as well.
Not going to lie, it grinds my gears too. I despise having my name shortened and will pull people up on it when they call me Em. I guess it's something that people can only sympathise with if they get called something they don't like. Lots of forms will ask for given name and name you go by so it's obviously important to a lot of people
Yeah but that is real life. I also get this with both my legal name and the name I actually go by. The difference is, is that it's real life and not some forum/board. And I correct people in real life to what I do wish to be called.
Is it actively harming anyone to call someone Wes, to miss out an accent in a name or any number of other quirks one particular member has and tries to run the men's side of the forum in their way or the highway manner? We are all individuals and it shouldn't matter. But time and time again, one member attempts to rule everyone else and it leads to posts like this. It is most unfriendly to members new and old.

I agree with you Blue Belle.
Years ago I used to assist on the Steve G Tennis site that at the time was the go to results service (this is really back in the day!) Steve was very particular about how the results were presented (or as he said, very anal about it!) so that his site was consistent. Regardless of the draw, the winner always came first eg,
Play One d. Player Two 6-4, 3-6, 7-5
The idea being when written as a list you could see at glance who won and you do not have to read each line carefully to see if they won, or were "lost to". This is a very minor thing yet I understand when it is not done the way that you like (and think it should be) it can frustrate. What right do I have to pull people up and tell them that they do grates with me. We are all going about our lives and chip in here socially. I think many posters, especially new ones, soon disappear if they pulled up by "site rules". Stircrazy, you contribute sooooo much to this site, one of the top few posters. Please do not disappear, you would be sorely missed but at the same time can you not accept people (and their posts) as they come?
I've lived in three countries and in two of those countries I've had to go by what is basically a different name (including one which I hate and one which just is not me)
But I didn't think it was worth it, to spend my life correcting people, it gets rude, it inhibits friendship and contact, and a rose by any other name and all that
But people can choose otherwise if they feel SO strongly about it. But they have to say so.
As long as no one is being rude, my belief is that you can call the players by any name you choose - it's your forum, you're a member, your personality makes the board what it is, this is not a new report service
So if you want to call him Wes, Wesers, Wesbomb, then go ahead !
I have had one person prviate message me to ask me not to refer to a family member by their surname - to them, they thought that using the surname only was rude. So I changed. Because they'd asked. Perfectly fair enough. But that was the surname - I point out - nothing diminutive. Many people will think using the surname is respectful - this parent didn't.
So until Wesley contacts me to say 'please don't use Wes', then I'll assume that he doesn't care, doesn't read this, and his mother doesn't care either. And if I ever show any interest in doubles, I'll Wes him to my heart's content

SteveG! What a site that was! What happened to Steve? The site still runs but is much different - did Steve stop being involved ?
Expected to see a list of people congratulating Lloyd and Harri making the tour finals after an incredible first year on tour - not this nonsense.
Well done to both.
Definitely - Lloyd has had a a great season, an ATP 500 title win and I think 7 tour finals in total. I dont think hes got near winning our player of the month votes though or even on the
podium. But as a season , Id say he should be in the chat for player of the season. Problem is, he isnt qualified for it yet! Maybe he will get to win Novembers vote or be RU or there is always the wildcard vote, intended for just this situation , if others feel the same !
meanwhile, in real life, go Lloyd and HarrI, here and in Turin
One final post - I do not wish to be accussed of bullying and I was sad to hear of SC's illness earlier on in the year and happy they recovered enough to come back. I appreciate the work that they do in updating. Nevertheless, my points above still stand.
.........
Win/win in terms of the GB/GB clash later on. Think it would be juuuust slightly sweeter if Lloyd and Harri take it though.

Thing is, I believe, Neal will get that number one year end place (or equal with WK) regardless. So, Lloyd and Harri winning would feel like a bigger thing for them and a bigger milestone in their career. I think they can also get year end 3rd pair and both get into the top 10 individually , so it feels like them winning would be more important. sorry Neal.

I'm with you, Blue_Belle.
And, contrary to someone above, in my opinion it's not 'nonsense', it's important - in life (not just on this board), there isn't a single right way and the squeaky wheel shouldn't always get the oil
