Week 44 - ITF W100 Shrewsbury, Great Britain Hard

If Maia wins she would play a former French Open finalist next and it wouldnt even be on the show court.

Maia had 4 break points for 4-0 in the deciding set but Garland holds. Still 3-1 up with a break but I wonder if that was a turning point.

Brilliant results today, but having seen these R2 draws I think it will be amazing if we get any winners. Even so it's great to have so many of our girls competing at this level.

We'll get a win or two ( maybe even more! ) Again it's about the collective, hitting R2 with numbers, plus some decent form.

As I've just written within a longish spiel in the top 500 thread, live Maia (84 points so far) and Marni (83 points) are up to around the WR 500 mark.

Maia should already have done enough to squeeze in to that top 500 on Monday, Marni not quite for now. Both will surely be much higher before too long.

Misaki Doi had a gruelling long match today and hasn't been playing that well recently

Wickmayer didn't look quite like the old Wickmayer against Isabelle Lacy

Jodie on form is a match for Lys

And Konjuh also had a real battle today

So there you go - that's four wins, no problem

I havent been following much recently -so surprised and delighted by the quality of the livestream, with several camera angles, and informed commentary.

There seem to be some large brands advertising in the intros, so hopefully this will help to fill some coffers.

Along with the UK Pro-League, the new calendar with several more $25-$100 tournaments in the UK seems to me to be a big improvement on the situation a couple of years back.

Better stop here - I'm in danger of saying summat vaguely complementary about the LTA.

IIRC the BBC were meant to show the W60 in Shrewsbury scheduled for March 2020 before the pandemic struck.

Sonay is a set up against Ana Konjuh and has just saved 3 set points to stay in the second set. Konjuh serving at 5 games all.

and gets broken so Sonay now serving for the match

To add Freya is currently holding her own against the No1 seed, long way to go but still heartening to see

Sonay came within two points of the match twice (at 30-30 on her serve, and at 5-5 in the tie-break) and didn't play badly but could quite force the match point (let alone the match)

And we're now into a third set....

Freya, though, has taken the first set nicely - but you can't believe that AK isn't going to react...

I noticed Jodie's match with Lys has dropped off the schedule on SofaScore? System error or has one of them pulled out?
