Sonay loses the last 3 games to go out 7-5 in the third. Very, very close match.

Yes, a great match from Sonay - all up until the very last 5 mins - but no regrets for the second set - it was nip and tuck and she played well, battled hard etc

And no regrets for the third set, even when she got broken back mid-way though, none until the last couple of games where she seemed to lose belief slightly....

But against a quality opponent, for someone as young as Sonay, it's no hardship whatsoever, simply great groundwork for going forward

Another impressive match by the Czech junior, Barbara Palicova

She won easily and, like all that Czech stable of girls, just keeps on producing the results....

You could say it's a gutting day

But I'm far happier that both Freya and Sonay came within an inch of winning, rather than Sonay won flukily and Freya got thrashed, say.

A win is great, and points help, but what matters far more is form - form will give points and wins, and far more of them, going forward

Doi struggling a bit with injury, Eliz may have a chance here.

Eliz had a lot of break points at 4-4* in the third, was in contention in most of them in some really gritty rallies but just couldn't get the job done. Does well to hold to 30 in next game.

5-5*

Katie a set and a break to the good.

Luckily for Eliz, Doi played a horrible tie-break

Eliz had buckets of break points in that third set (about 12?)

Doi should never have still been there - but she kept running really well (as did our Eliz, of course )

As expected, the gruelling match Doi had yesterday, and her lack of wins recently, made her look a little suspect the whole time - and Eliz really, really did deserve that match

And I had a tenner on her as the odds were clearly overly generous, so all good

Well done Eliz! Missed another break point at 5-5* but hung in tough. Yes Doi was a bit hobbled but still had to do the work and played a good tiebreak, taking her second match point. Lovely stuff.

Katie was actually *3-0 up in the second but Wickmayer seems to have got a second wind 4-4*

Super by Eliz.

Last week's Shrewsbury SF and now this W100 QF sees her up from WR 500 to live 389!

Yesterday's doubles R1 win with Lauryn also sees her into the doubles top 400.

Been on the general rise for a while now but seemed rather under the radar. Much more of this and she will deservedly be much more in the spotlight.

Very poor forehand, excellent backhand. Served really well today and kept composed and in the moment.

She was rated as a junior, but never really flew up the junior rankings.

Results are just starting to come together, but I'm not sure she is ready to jump into the top 300 yet.
