So encouraging to see so many of the mid tier girls pushing on up over the past few weeks/months. Eliz, Anna, Freya, Emily, Maia, and then a few youngsters. Looks rather healthy!
Yes, paulisi has been highlighting the likely and lately actually growing number of top 500 ranked GB women. Now looking like going to be 18 on Monday ( including all these you mention wales, with Emily, Marni and Mandy squeezing in after Freya and Maia ),1 more than our men.
Not likely to be 20 particularly soon with currently a bit of a gap to #19 Talia and #20 Emilie. But having 18 is historically very good for us
And there do look to be very good youngsters that we can have hopes will come through in time.
Best overall year for our men and women together that I can recall with much that I just didn't foresee.
Yes. Another good thing about our current group of top-500 women is that they're all 'actual', current players.
A little while ago the numbers included Fran (who obviously must have some serious injury issue and hasn't played for a long time) and players like Sam Murray and Lissey, who were obviously switching over to pretty much doubles only
And they sort of distorted the numbers.
The current batch are all 'genuine' current top-500 singles players.
(The only one who 'worries' me is Beth)
And, apart from Mandy, they're all pretty young (even Hev, at 30, is still definitely in singles territory).
And, yes, there's definitely a good crop of younger ones - the question there will be whether the likes of Talia, Ranah, Ella, Jasmine etc choose to go to college or turn pro. There will obviously be a fair bit less chance of significant ranking rises in the short-term if they go to uni.

Mandy is interesting. Most players take on easier tournaments towards the later parts of their careers but this year Mandy has played in six W60s, a W80 and next week a W80+H. She also played one W15 and twelve W25s. She has reached the SF stage of three W25s and qualified in the last of her W60s. There are certainly signs of better results as the year has progressed.
Worthwhile pointing out that the girl who won this 60k is only 15 years old, Russian Mira Andreeva.
She beat the top seed in the final, in two easy sets, and will be about WTA 300
