I take it you don't know of the young man, CD? He appears to have no ATP profile, while the ITF one says he's 20, but nowt else, yet the organisers saw fit to award him a WC.
No, never heard of him
And can't find anything of any note online either....
The result of the Andic match doesn't make any sense to me. He was struggling to qualify for British Tour events early in the year and now he is winning in straights against an up and coming player who is around 400 in the world, close to his highest ranking, will presumably be making the leap to Challenger level this year or the next, and won a Futures the other week.
Andic only took part in a single ITF Junior event, in 2020, and one event organised by Tennis Europe in 2017, where he lost in the first round. Those tournaments took place in Serbia and Bosnia respectively, so I suppose he has a family connection to one of those places, and Andic does sound like a Serbian name. I can't see any college profile either. His singles record for LTA events this year is 25/16.
Just looked at the prematch odds and they were 1.01 for Erel. Remarkable. Going to try and see if there is a stream for it.
Had more of a look and only other thing I can find out about Andic is he lives in Harrow and appears to train at the Connaught Club. Well done to him anyway, assuming this result is genuine and not a reporting error on the part of the ITF.

Thanks for that info, Densher. Re the surname, Wiki provides a (very) short list of people bearing it, the third & last named being a Serb. "Aleksandar" & its variants are a common enough Christian name in eastern Europe, including Serbia, so the evidence certainly points to that as his family origin. My first thought when I saw it the other week was Turkish, as it's very close to one I do know ("Ardiç"), but the Christian name rather rules it out.

P.S. Welcome to the board.
Always love your insight SC. It's like watching Susie Dent and her origin of words on Countdown.

And Yes. Welcome to the board Densher.
Comparison with Susie Dent! Wow! Flattering, but totally unwarranted. Her knowledge of matters linguistic is positively encyclopaedic & apparently there at her fingertips, whereas mine relies on fleeting memories of all sorts which I have to scrabble round on the internet in the hope of bringing them into sharper focus.
Had a feeling there was something strange going on, hence my incredulity about the result yesterday. I would like to know how much was wagered on the outcome in case it was unusually high for a futures match.
