I hope I've got these details right.  They're not yet available on the ATP site!  furious

L32:  Ryan Peniston WR 153 (CH = 123 in July) vs Jay Clarke WR 216 (CH = 153 in July 2019)

And the winner plays top seeded Fucsovics

That presupposes that Fucsovics beats the French qualifer, Arthur Fils.  wink

That's a career best ranking scalp for Stuart, I believe! , just edging his win against top seed Escoffier (then WR 289) in Shrewsbury in February.

Karlovskiy nevertheless in the main draw as a lucky loser.  Plays the Aussie, Aleksandar Vukic.

Poor scoreline for Jay - he ought to call time on this year and have a break.

Unsurprising result but worrying score from a Jay point of view. Wonder if he would drop down to some ITFs before Australia just to try and get some court time and get something going.

Tbh given recent results I think I'd be suggesting ITFs instead of Australia as well as before it.

He had that one great challenger title earlier in the year out of the blue and then it has fallen away again. I hope he gets it back.

Well, its a good test for Ryan and a win would be amazing , if unlikely.

Yeah back in May since then 15 tournament and 3 match wins since. I want to say he did have an injury or two at some point as well. Maybe still hampering him?

However easy it is to do the right tennis thing and skip the Australian Open and play ITFs. Going on last years QR1 prize money its hard to justify turning it down even with the travelling needed. Its £14k at current exchange. Certainly funds some time on tour especially if things are not going well.

And Karlovskiy downs Vukic (WR 140/CH 117 earlier this year) in three.
