RE: Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open - men's singles (outdoor hard)

Stu Fraser's assessment of Andy's match.  Includes a list of Andy's top five performances going back to his doubles victory alongside Jamie over Lleyton Hewitt & Sam Groth in the semi-finals of the 2015 Davis Cup - in the days when the Davis Cup was the Davis Cup...

This is quite possibly hyperbole because of the match, but i think that this may be Andy's greatest victory. Given the metal hip, age and opponent it is a magnifcent achievement to win today.

Kokkinakis on Laver in the second round would be nice. Fognini is a bit volitile and neither player get on particularly well either.

 I don't think that's hyperbole. Magnificent indeed.

Fraser rating it third best match ever for Andy, that is special.

What a stunning display from Andy. I confess that when Mateo came back from two sets down to force a decider I thought it would end up being a case of so near yet so far for Murray. How does this guy do it. They said it couldn't be done with a metal hip but duh, Metal Murray has proven it most certainly can be done. The guy is just incredible and it's so good for us that he is still playing. Poor Mateo will be gutted at missing that easy match point. But this victory belongs to our man. The man, The hip, The Muzza.

My love for Andy has no limits. Got to be in the conversation for our greatest-ever sportsperson. What a match. Fingers crossed he can recover in time for his next match but whatever happens, this validates all the hard work.

Matteo will be dreaming about that backhand miss on match point for some time!

We should really make the most of performances like this. What he is doing now at 35 is astonishing. All this with a metal hip which is something that no-one has done before. I said before in another post that getting back towards the top 40 with the injuries he's had is in many ways a greater achievement that winning slams and getting to number 1. Today has made the hard work over the last few years worthwhile.

I feel cam tonight against Lestienne, and Evo tomorrow against Chardy, both have excellent prospects of progressing ; and on this form , why not Andy. 3 in the last 32 would be nice !

FREE TENNIS ON SKY ALERT.

Putting this in capitals just to let everyone know that if you have Sky Q or Sky Glass you now get discovery plus with sports for free. Before this week it was the plain discovery for free without sports but they have now added the Sports so thats a saving of £6.99 a month for free.

If you are already paying seperately through discovery then cancel it and use your free one with sky.

I only found this out when I went to log into my Eurosport Player app that I had been paying £40 a year for. It no longer exists and asks you to log in via discovery. Advice would be cancel this altogether like I just did and use the free one.

Basically means you can watch any court and similar with any Snooker and cycling fans

Rafa in trouble here 2 sets down and now he is injured. Even if he goes out he was looking in a real battle when fully fit.

Rafa is about to go out in straight sets. Will all focus on his injury at the end of the 2nd set but McDonald was playing some lights out tennis before that so hopefully the focus is on that.

Novak has this in the bag youd think. Shame Andy is in the Novak half and scheduled for a last 16 meeting.

Rafa losing makes me think Jack missed an opportunity , it was there for the taking.

Hard not to think we will be seeing the last of Rafa over the next season or so, will he have the willingness to keep digging etc. hes older than Andy was when he got his injury (older than Andy full stop) and with a young family. Does he need it anymore?
