Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open - men's singles (outdoor hard)

3 match points for Brooksby one of which had Rudd stretching for a return that lobbed on to the line and somehow Ruud breaks back.

5-4 in the third.

Ruud takes the tie break into a 4th on Laver. Brooksby looks done for here, would be the escape of the tournament if Ruud gets this he was completely blown away and should be out.

Brooksby wins!

Match of the round so far in the mens. Massive implications for the draw now.

First time top 2 seeds out in the mens since Hewitt and Kuerten 20 years ago.

Frances Tiafoe's outfit turned heads during day one of the 2023 Australian Open on Monday

Agreed!

Actually he does look quite cool in it but  still think it inappropriate for an important tennis match.

I actually love it but think the top and bottom together are too much. One or the other with a plain back opposite would work for me. Probably the top and black shorts. I love tennis for its crazy fashion!

Shorts in either the blue or the red would definitely have looked better.  I'd love to see him in something orange and garish though, think it would suit him

Murray unlikely to be on until at least 10am UK time. Zverev match has another 2 hours potentially then Bencic match after.

Dan v Rublev next should be a challenge. Seems Chardy lost control over a missed
Let call for a ball dropping from his own pocket? Got to stay focused. Dan had little sympathy !

The Mmoh v Zverev match is very poor quality. Thankfully Garcia v Fernandez is much better viewing.

Anyone whos watched much of the action , how fast do the courts seem to be playing? Theyve been quite quick recent years, but Ive not heard much mention of court speed/ conditions this ?

Not that quick Jon plus the balls are not keeping as firm so its certainly slowing things down which I prefer.

Thanks Jaggy - and its not been quite so hot on the whole temp wise.

I see 7 Americans are through to the mens last 32, 1/3rd of all through so far. Theyre doing well.

The american men are having a good tournament. That makes seven through to the 3rd round, with possibility of another 4.
