Week 12 - ITF M25 - Toulouse-Balma, France (indoor hard)

QR1:  (q1) Patrick Brady WR 946 (CH = 944 last month) vs Matt Ponchet (FRA) WR 1995 (CH = 1543 last August)

PB's bio on the ITF site says he's 18, but his photo makes him look only about 16!

QR1:  (qWC) Nicolas Ocampos-Rossi (FRA) UNR vs (q14) Ali Habib WR 1522 (= CH)

QR1:  (q7) George Houghton WR 1295 (CH = 1157 in November 2018) vs (qWC) Benjamin Sure (FRA) UNR

Ali Gray, Harry W & Dan Little should be in the main draw.

Glad to see Patrick on the list

I'd assumed he was off to college/uni

And someone on another thread said, no, he was going pro immediately

Which rather took me aback - not only in terms of tennis level but, as you say SC, he's very slight for his age

However, his dad is a tennis bod so must have some idea what he's advising junior to do (I assume....)

Ali got killed in the first set, playing too far back and allowing Max to sneak in and poach at the net

But played well in the second to get things on the right track

And then it was a tight tie-break, with Ali behind and then leading 8-6

When he basically then hit 4 unforced errors - one or two of which were maybe the right shot, at least, but really...

And the last point was SO stupid that if I were his coach I'd be livid - utterly ridiculous matchplay - never in a million years going to make it - completely unnecessary.

Sounds as though you're actually livid on behalf of his coach, CD!  wink

I was ! I am !

Ali's the higher ranked player, Max was all excited for a win, as he'd won the first set, playing at home, saw it slip away when he lost the second, at 6-8 down in the MTB is about to lose, and then suddenly Max is 9-8 up, thanks to three gifst from Ali, his heart is going nineteen to the dozen, his hands are clammy
- and Ali then decides to go for a return of second serve that (a) he'd missed by a country mile several points before that, and (b) even if he did, by a miracle, make was the wrong shot anyway because it was SO obvious what he was doing and left the court SO wide open that it left Max an easy shot (which, of course, he didn't need to make anyway because Ali missed it - again - by a country mile)

However, I'll get over it ..... eventually

Ultra tight - and Patrick saved a match point (well, Bondaz hit it out) but it was an excellent, brave point on his own match point

At least, this Franco-Anglo match didn't get away.....
