Not sadly ( or happily, pity the two Brits met ) well done to Jan who I guess was the favourite and more likely to progress further.

I meant the "sadly" purely from Billy's perpective & the ill luck of his draw.  I bear no ill will whatsoever towards Jan.

FQR:  (ALT/q1) Jan Choinski WR 178 vs Rudolf Molleker (GER) WR 307 (CH = 146 in July 2019)

The Ukraine-born (Severodonestsk) German did for the q11, Alexandar Lazarov, in three sets.

Jan very much the form player of our two here and will move past Ryan to GB #6.

5. Liam : 433 points

6. Jan : 330 + (net) 1 so far  = 331

7. Ryan : 374 - 57 = 317

8. Billy : 167 + (net) 1 = 168

Whatever has happened to Ryan? That looked like a certain win for him and yet he was totally outplayed in the third set. Is there some sort of illness or injury problem as he seems to be a shadow of the Ryan from last summer.

Presumably cant be an injury as hes playing week in and out, unlike say Paul Jubb. I guess we never know what goes on in a players personal life and I often think this must be a big thing behind form swings. I know it affects my work perfonance if I have some personal anxieties.

Ryans a tricky one. Not sure what to make of it. Having checked his results last year I dont think hes necessarily doing any worse in the challengers. Hes had a few first round defeats recently but the same was the case last year. Additionally, hes obviously not a clay court lover and, one random challenger final aside, his results last year on the clay were similar. 2 challenger semi finals (on hard) this year is a slight improvement, although he started on the 25ks last year.

That said, clearly with the higher ranking you would expect progression, especially with some more favourable draws. His ranking was certainly boosted by his grass court performances last year and it will take a hit if he doesnt match it this year; that definitely puts the pressure on. I was surprised (and delighted) when he made his run last year, and therefore am not too surprised he hasnt fully capitalised on it this year. However, Im sure others will have different t opinions.
