Week 20 - ITF M25 - Reggio Emilia, Italy (clay)

Here's a bit of a turn-up for the books:

QR1:  (qWC/q1) Kyle Edmund WR 473 (CH = 14 in October 2018) vs Luigi Castelletti (ITA) UNR (CH = 1512 in January 2021)

Jay Clarke should be in the main draw.

Absolutely.  He needs to get used to winning matches again.

Kyle is currently 6-3 5-3* up but to be honest, he looks shattered. Only watched the last game but his body language is showing fatigue.

Kyle gets over the line with another break but at times, that was painful to watch.

I hope he wins, but the concern is that hes played a fair amount this year (for him) and probably should be in better shape (without being cruel) to cope with 2 futures qualifying matches in one day, especially as it wasnt a long match. Heres hoping its just his languid style showing.

That said, when I say paying a fair amount obviously that includes a few first round defeats.

I think the issue is that although he has played quite a bit, his injuries have left him unable to train at the intensity required.  There is no doubt in my mind that he is still far from fully fit.

Understood. In football match practice helps to recover fitness. Im not sure it is the same in tennis to the same extent.
