Well its only really Harriet that has a big ranking drop. Katie and Jodie only won 1 round at Eastbourne.
And of course they can now only gain points from this week, Eastbourne and Wimbledon.
They both reached round 3, beating Pliskova and Badosa in round 2 respectively. And indeed the can, the rankings being a week out of sync throws up opportunities.
I'm just making the point that in the joy of Nottingham it's easy to forget just how many big wins all the girls racked up on the grass last year, and actually if they hadn't gone on these runs last week some of the rankings would be looking quite gloomy.

Indeed, but let's rejoice that actually as we stand now, with already one more grass court week taken off than has been added, because of the later calender, overall our leading women are currently better ranked than they were before the French Open ( and that's not due to the French Open! )
We have our women in such grass court form, and as seagull says points from this week, Eastbourne and Wimbledon to add, and just Eastbourne week to come off ( Harriet 100, Katie B 55, Jodie 55, plus Katie S 48 from Hamburg ).
This is what the play-offs entry list would look like if everyone eligible signed in. I've assumed Sonay doesn't need to play and Emilie L and Amanda C won't sign in. I expect some of those here will get qWCs and won't need to play and there may be some that choose not to sign-in, so Jasmine should get in and I expect Talia to get in with a WC if not directly (if she needs to play that is) .
Naiktha Bains Anna Brogan Eliz Maloney Eden Silva Emily Appleton Marni Banks Maia Lumsden Freya Christie Katy Dunne Beth Grey Millie Rajecki (NCAA WC) Ella Mcdonald (Girls #1 WC) Ranah Stoiber (Girls #2 WC) Ciara Moore (BT West Worthing WC) Discretionary (LTA WC - UKPL Felixstowe WC not required) Discretionary (LTA WC)
Next In Jasmine Conway Talia Neilson-Gatenby Alice Gillan Lauryn John-Baptiste Matilda Mutavdzic
If that ends up being the field it would be the strongest for some time. Last year's was comparatively weak, with lots of players not turning up.
In practice I suspect a couple of those names will get QWCs, some others won't turn up (I think Freya will miss it now as she's through to the Birmingham QFs) and the cut will fall slightly.

Personally I think Venus will have to show some form in Birmingham to get a WC.
Saw the last few games as she beat Giorgi 7-6 in the 3rd after 3 hours and 17 minutes. Despite being a part time player these days she is a legend of the sport and at Wimbledon and will be someone the crowd will love to cheer. Will 100% be receiving a wild card and no one will deserve one more.
And the wildcard must have been guaranteed even before today's match because the commentators on BBC 2 early this afternoon, at Queens, mentioned she was definitely playing at Wimbledon (main draw), so it must be known
And anyway, as you say Wolf, all rather immaterial after today - she will get one (unless her body collapses), and lots in the crowd will love it, and I tink it's pretty inspirational....
Well, we should all know at least the initial WCs tomorrow.
If by some mischance it is not considered possible to.award all "the GB 5" MD WCs here and now, I really do hope they all end up with them.
Good wins today for Harriet and Katie S, who possibly are the two outsiders for WCs. I would consider Katie B and Jodie should be nailed on and then probably Heather next.
There are so many different measures that will tell to some extent different stories and I certainly dont think these making the decisions should be bound by rankings but as we stand tonight in live GB rankings, Katie B is well ahead, Jodie next and then it is very tight before a big gap to Lily.
Live rankings after Tuesday play ( and now with all.2022 grass court points taken out ) :
1. Katie B 733 2. Jodie 572 3. Emma 548 4. Katie S 482 5. Heather 477 6. Harriet 462 7. Lily 299 8. Sonay 225
Being reported from a 'very reliable source' on another forum that Hannah has indeed got a quali wildcard
Which I'd been expecting - as had many others, I'm sure
She has the level, it's a great story, a great experience, she extremely nearly earned one anyway......and the key thing is, like Coco who also got one very young, she is truly exceptional for her age (she may not translate into an exceptional adult player but you can only deal with what you've got at the time)

So, no Yanina Wickmayer?
Not yet. I guess they're waiting to see who wins this week and then they'll consider who to give the final WC to across all grass winners, that is if they're going to give any grass winner a WC.
