I saw a member of the club this evening and started to get at him about not putting stands up until the last minute and he was adamant that the stands are already up, so someone is not telling the truth.

I suspect your friend is correct, though there may be some finishing/safety stuff yet to do. Maybe. I have been thinking a lot about the LTA over this issue. I dont HATE them, but they do receive a lot of money, seem to have well salaried appointments and results are........is underwhelming a fair choice of words?
There is no rival orgaisation staging tournaments that threatens their role. I am not talking about what we have seen in golf but, the LTA is the only voice in tennis, they rule unchallenged. On the world stage their is a player union, nationally there is nothing that I know of(?) In football clubs you often get Trusts or Supporter Clubs that may clash with the club but have the effect of challenging them on key issues. In a former life I was chair of a supporters club and their was some element of holding them to account. The club still ruled of course but.....well the LTA have none of this.
I don't claim to have all the answers but their are numerous issues, small and large such as "no fans at Queens qualifying" that the LTA rule on and, it is the only rule. It is not healthy and the stength of the sport upport for all sides (players, tournaments, supporters and even the LTA themselves, suffers in my opinion.

Mike Dickson on twitter is on this story as well it seems in terms of why no fans. And one or two other journos and twitterers like Chris Goldmsmith
Why not allow children from local schools and tennis clubs to come and watch for free?
A work colleagues son did a tennis taster week over half term (because he had heard how much my son loves playing), but hes never seen a tennis match. If they want to get more players in at grass roots level, watching the qualies at Queens could be a great introduction!
ps all spelling mistakes, lack grammar and typos are due my iPad having a mind of its own
Edit: Just watching Sonay play at Nottingham and a group of schoolchildren have just filed in to watch

Cash/Patten have withdrawn from doubles and Julian has entered Eastbourne with Luke Johnson (10th alts). Wonder if as seems likely Henry is missing from Wimbledon Julian will play with Luke or look for a partner elsewhere.
I reckon Luke partners Julian. He partnered Ryan at Surbiton due to the normal policy of if you want a WC then you need a GB partner, probably might have continued if not for Luke/Julian. But Id guess Luke would prefer a doubles specialist if he could get one.
Out of 16 guys, there are 5 Frenchmen, 3 Americans, 2 Australians, 2 British guys (and 4 sundries)
You could say the Grand Slam countries have got qualis wrapped up.....
Just wishing that there was an emoji button.
I love your insights and just wish that there was a thanks or thumbs up button I could hit as I'm generally not great at writing lots.
That's so interesting, what privilege the GS nations have..
Helen, there's a thumbs up icon in the "More emoticons" section (just click on the link below the main ones to the left of any reply). Trouble is, I've never found a way of using that in the same way, so I just type it in, i.e. : thumbsup : (without the gaps between the intial "t" & the final "p") gives you .
