CD's probably taking the bookies to the cleaners wirh these college doubles players
I did rather on the last one, it's true - but the odds had rather collapsed this time - ridiculous ! (Or not, I guess, as the boys won, but all the same..... ). So today was a lot skinnier.
But, yep, the win over the top seeds will now fund me nicely for some highly dubious punts on very unlikely players Which is always fun....
It is really good to see Mr Murray (A) giving all of these players something to tell their grandchildren about. Win or lose it must be really nice tone able to tell them that you once played competitively against one of the Big 4.
The fearnley and Monday, Samuel and Thompson pairings are exciting to see come through and alongside the temporary Broady and Jonnny pairing, it feels like an exciting new wave - Id felt the doubles guys were getting stale and we needed some new names to hit the headlines. I hope all 3 of these pairs can get into Wimbledon with wildcards.
I see Julian and Henry are still alt 3 or so for Halle, not sure what that means or if Julian needs to keep in to potentially make a pair with someone repairing , not quite sure how that all works.
julian also seems to be repairing in queens qualies as well, so perhaps they just havent been taken out of Halle?

I remember Arthur Féry doing super well with Felix last year, at Nottingham, as a young, sort-of-college, pairing
And Finn Murgett and Lui Maxted as a very young college duo doing really well last year at Roehampton
JoMo did great last year, too, with Giles Hussey
I love seeing the college lads arrive for summer doubles - it always shakes things up
definitely. I know some people think doubles takes away from singles and maybe over a season that can be true, on grass though, it sharpens the game, volleying and returns in particular, plus it earns some decent money if you do well. The younger guys all benefit. And it is probably why Andy and Cam are playing Queens together, although whether Andy will keep to that if he plays more matches at Nottingham, we will see
I don't really care if it benefits them or not, to be honest.
If they like it, and it puts a bit in their pocket, and the authorities see fit to enable that, then fine.
I just meant that, personally, I rather like seeing the youngsters who I followed as 17 year-olds getting some court time and - because of all the specialised coaching they've been getting - playing really well, and better, than the other older guys

I agree doubles is a great addition for the younger guys to sharpen up their net play and give their game more variety. As long as it balances out and therye not playing too much doubles to affect their singles play then surely it's a good thing?

Most of the players Ive followed through college have moved on/are in their final year so really exciting to see them doing so well. Great to shake things up. IMO college tennis is great prep for the tour, plus they have a college degree.
