Well done! The natural pessimistic fan in me thought she'd missed her chance with the two match points at 5-4* where she went long ok the returns (off decent serves). So pleased and proud she hung tough. Frech was very very tight and passive, Jodie deserved it.
Jodie had some very good spells but was so careless at times that she rather kept Frech in the match. Impressive play from Burrage towards the end of the first set, breaking twice through lots of aggressive shots, having struggled to land her first serve, she came up with 3 unreturned first serves and an ace to take the set.
Frech served well in the 2nd set, so many aces and unreturned first serves down the T; perhaps Jodie could have adjusted her returning position in light of what was happening. Jodie came through a difficult first service game in the set full of Burrage errors, saving 4 break points, three due to her good play, one a terrible backhand error from Frech. Awful start to Jodie's 2nd service game, a horrible forehand wide for 0-30, Frech with a super pass winner for 0-40, Jodie saved two break points but a shocking forehand drive volley wide cost her the crucial break.
Broken to love at the start of the 3rd, Jodie recovered by breaking back straight away, 2 good points from her + 2 errors from Frech. Jodie twice saved bp the following game thanks to an ace and then a super backhand winner after her serve, having got herself in trouble with two awful backhands into the net and a df. 4 Burrage winners in her next service game, then 3 good points contributed to a break for *4-2. A brilliant lob from Frech 0-15, Jodie soon down 15-40, saved 2 bps with aggressive shots only to blunder after Frech put up a high defensive lob, then another Burrage error for the break.
Three backhand errors from Frech gave Jodie 2 break points but she saved both due to a good T first serve and a super backhand pass winner, then two poor shots from Jodie allowed her to hold 4-4. Good Burrage hold for 5-4, then up 15-30 wasted an opening with a dreadful backhand down the line miles wide. Having got back to 40-40, Jodie twice earned match point, saved both times by decent first serves. Another good service game from Jodie, then reached 15-40 after a df and a forehand error long after her serve from Frech, saved her 3rd mp with forehand winner after a decent 1st serve, but a shocking backhand into the net after her serve cost her the match.
Jodie's play at the net was encouraging, lots of good volleys and drive volleys, with only the occasional error. 2nd serve return could have been a lot better - 8 unreturned Frech 2nd serves, of which perhaps 2 or 3 were decent serves. Both players had their lowest first serve percentage of the week so far.

What another cracker from Jodie Burrage. Not perfect tennis but she found a way to fight for that semi final spot. It almost feels like a mini contest between our top ladies this week. Any of them could be British No1 next week and all just a stone's throw from the world top 100. This week has made me really sit up and see that for sure we could and should have 4 ladies in the top 100.
Fairly chunky choke from Katie as she was just at the finishing line. She missed a MP on her own serve, then was broken. She then squandered three MPs on 0-40 on Harriet's serve, but errors followed and Harriet hung on.
She's steadied the ship a bit with a love hold so back to Dart needs to hold to save herself again.
Oooop the girls are fighting at the net. Wasnt watching much so no idea why?
Think Harriet was just moaning about something Katie did/said(?) and Katie was saying she does it every match.
And that's good it got a little spicy, this was a big deal, they should be going full on at each other. Lots at stake. Well done Katie, she has the bigger and better overall game, so feels like the right result.
