Week 26 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - men's qualifying

Was a good day down at Qualies, even if it isnt as quaint as it use to be. Managed to watch the first 3 wins, caught the 1st set of Billy but had to leave after that.

If Billy and Charlie win tomorrow we will have 10 in the top 300 in the ATP Race by the way

Good stuff. Although that for now would just be provisionally for the official post Wimbledon 17/07 race figures. Plenty more points for top 300 race contenders to add by then.

I am surprised that the live-tennis site is adding Wimbledon qualifying points in to its current live race table, as opposed to waiting until next week. It doesn't appear OER is.

Be great if the guys could go further still and go and qualify.

Toby and Charlie on court 13 tomorrow, Billy on court 15.

But JoMo has the tv court , 11 I believe it is, for his match with Albot. PHH also on that court.

Mens seem to be first 2 matches up on all courts, presumably womens will then follow.

Shame about Dan Cox, but all in all, not a bad day at the office.

QR2:  (qWC) Billy Harris WR 346 vs (q25) Hugo Gaston (FRA) WR 137 (CH = 58 last July)

Im going with one win tomorrow - feel Billy and JoMo and Charlie will struggle but think Toby could be the one to watch.

Im going for Charlie to be the solitary Brit mens or womens to make the FQR.

Novak has some grass pedigree , Ilkley RU a couple of years back.  It hes not pushed on due to injuries and has quite a Lendlesque style- Charlie would have a chance but I still think Novak is more likely winner

This. Bumped into his mum the other day, she was really pumped by his performance at Ilkley

Since I had a look at 2010-2019 drawsheets to contribute to discussion on the women's thread I have done the same for the men. In those 10 years (more typical than 2022, affected by the ban on Russia/Belarus) there were 29 British wins in QR1 (average 2.9) with 4 the most in 2016,2017 and 2018 (matched in 2023). There were 8 wins in QR2 and 2 qualifiers (Marcus Willis in 2016 beating Daniil Medvedev in the FQR and Alex Ward in 2017)

 I loved these stats, David

And for the women too, of course

Just adding steven's stats too, which I assume is for both men and women:

QR2 is often the toughest qualifying round for Brits (1990-2022 GB win rates have been 33% in QR1, 27% in QR2, 36% in the FQR), so 3 QR2 wins (in 2016, 2017 & 2021, which match the last three times Brits qualified) is the 21st century GB record to aim for tomorrow.

so with 7 players, 3 wins would be a circa 43% win ratio - 27% equates to approx 2 wins out of 7. I have gone for 1 (Toby) but 2 would be great, from today's match ups, IMO. 3 would be marvellous!
