Bad light stops play, to use a cricketing term, in Dan's match, with him trailing by 2-6 3-6.  He really doesn't look interested.  no

Think thats a bit harsh. I think he is interested. Dan being classic Dan though and having a go at anything/anyone to try and get it going, which has always been the case in his career when things havent been going his way. Halys to me seems to have come into it without having played any of the warm up tournaments so is probably the one not interested and having a free hit and it is paying off. Hopefully a break in the play till tomorrow can help Dan.

Yes, let's hope new day, very different match.

Day One over and 100% of our men are still in.

I remember watching Dan play Quentin at a futures event at the NTC several years ago, Dan won on that occasion.  Yesterday, QH was playing monster good tennis, massively above the level you'd expect from a player ranked 79th in the world. If bad light had not stopped play, Quentin would surely have breezed into the 2nd round.  Dan was not playing at his top level, but he wasn't crap either. The vibe I got from Dan was one of frustration rather than lack of desire.   Hopefully Quentin's level won't be as good this morning. Come on Dan!

Liam and Jan both have big second round matches worth watching

Liam versus Ruud , Jan versus Hurkacz

Both matches deserve one of the show courts, maybe court 2 or 3 , status, a bit like Arthur and George today.

From one of the easiest R1 matchups to one of the hardest R2 opponents - the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away for Liam!

Forecast not looking good for much play on the non covered courts today.

 Yes.... cry

they're underway at Roehampton so it's obviously OK at the moment..... and we may get an hour or so at Wimbly ... but as soon as the rain comes in, we're done for

Wonderful performance from George, he and his team should be really proud. I really hope this experience keeps him playing tennis.

Taking Holgar Rune to a tie break is not to be sniffed at. George has really tested Holgar here.

 Yes.

Well, if he only lasted one week at uni, I guess he knows that's not for him

And if he's been working in a pub, I guess he knows the value of a dollar

So, all told, he might now realise that tennis is good choice

It was a very good set by George - to only lose in a tie-break against Rune? That's pretty amazing

I hope he manages at least to keep up the level

A bit off topic, but an endlessly fascinating one for me:  I notice that the umpire is pronouncing George's surname "Loff-haygen".

George is still young at 22. I haven't seen him play that much, but if that last set was anything to go by, I would love to see him play again! Where is he next do we know? (Apart from round 2 if he gets the better of Rune).

He entered the Grass Court ITFs post Wimbledon but he has withdrawn. Also not on any challenger lists. However I notice he has quite a bit of strapping  around the right elbow/arm. So maybe he is having a few weeks off to make sure he doesnt pick up an injury.

At age 17-18, George was part of the 2001-ers Amazing Trio i.e. George, Anton and Jack Draper

We were blessed with three real prospects

Jack was the top of the list, probably, but only by a smidgen

George was always my little fave, just coz I loved the fluidity and acceleration he gets on the ball

But his volleys and play in the forecourt were pretty crud (and still are, bless him). And then he went AWOL - with rumours of dropping tennis coz it wasn't for him. As of last autumn, he suddenly reappeared, with nothing amazing at first, and then suddenly really found his form this spring. Really great to have him back.

Jack obviously soared into the top 100, top 50. And would be going great guns if he wasn't injured so much.... :(

Anton, rather than George, was Jack's sidekick for a while - doign well, looking promising, played great at Wimbly qualis - and then focused on studies, and/or just wasn't really happening for him on a tennis court. And it's now nothing special - BUT if he's just graduated, there's now time to really get things going again

Of course, we also have the traditional 'second-tier' 2001-ers - Harry W, in particular, has had an excellent last 6 months - ready for a shift up, I feel. Oscar W has been injured - not so sure about his tennis really
