Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - DOUBLES

The draw hasn't been made yet, but the seedings have just been announced.  In addition to the wild cards awarded to Liam & Jonny, Julian & Luke, Jacob & Jo & Toby & Connor, we have Neal & Wesley at N° 1, Joe & Rajeev at N° 3, Lloyd & Nicolas Mahut 11th & Jamie Murray & Michael Venus 13th.

I'd normally be excited to see 4 sets of seeded pairs with a GB player in them. But form is such, I am finding it hard to see any of those living up to their seedings.

Neal + - hard to see them winning this, QF feels more realistic

Joe + - 3rd seeds and an SF finish feels a long way off; winning a couple of matches would be good right now

Lloyd + - hard to say with a scratch pairing, last 16 ? Maybe more realistic but depends on draw

Jamie + - 13th seed and, again, maybe last 16 is realistic for them, but again depends on draw.

Of the other pairs, maybe a couple of wins here and there, any would be good, hopefully one of them will do some damage. Liam and Jonny excited me at Surbiton but not sure at the top level they will do much damage in the draw. The others are still largely untested pairings at the world class level.

Interesting, but I'd definitely be more optimistic. I'd noticed you becoming a bit Mr Gloomy about our doubles guys.

The form hasn't been great relative to what some have done in the past. But we still in the grand scheme of things have some very good pairs playing on Wimbledon grass. Personally, I at least see very little chance of none of our seeds living up to their seeding.

Anyway, let's all hope I'm right and Mr Gloomy is wrong.

PS: It's maybe better if I'm right for your predicted Wimbledon MD wins, Jon - ie. 35-35, almost half from men's doubles.

Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere I have tried looking, but what has happened to Henry Patten, I assumed he is injured?

Yes, sadly, he is.  Unfortunately, I can't remember whether I've seen anywhere what the actual problem is, but he's now been out for a few weeks, hence Julian's temporary partnership with Luke Johnson.  I assume that, had Henry been fit, he & Julian would have been in the draw by right.

From what I understand, Patten has a lower back issue. As a fellow tall person who has also endured sports related lower back problems, he has my sympathy.

Well, if ever doubles was going to get an early show court slot, Joe and Rajeev v K and K is going to be it.

They won't be scheduled for a show court. But at least men's doubles now being the best of 3 sets makes it more possible that they might be put on hold to add to a show court schedule if the scheduled singles matches finish rather early.

Definitely - by show court I also mean the other reserved seatings courts like court 2 (and whatever the others are) , not expecting centre or court one, unless on a reserve basis as you say

and yes, the three sets helps a lot with that. And is about time really .

Thank you to Densher and Stircrazy for the reply to my question. Yes, tall people do seem to get more back problems and I wish Henry well and a quick return. His success with Julian over the last year or so months has been phenomenal, let's hope this continues when they are back playing together.
Very much looking forward to the doubles event and hope that Julian and Luke get a kinder draw than they have been lately.

I see Krajicek is the new number one as Neal falls to equal 2

Generally good draws! Great payday, especially for our up and coming players. Hopefully these wimby paychecks set them up for the rest of the year

Tough one for Rajeev and Joe - assuming Kyrgios turns up.
