Yes, but would explain the numbers!

No. WCs are always allocated by the host nation. There are extra players this year as they are there by right.

Yes, and that would explain the numbers!  What part of that aren't you understanding!

Ruby Cooling and Hannah Rylatt have taken the first set off Ranah and Mimi on court 4, 6-3. Can someone remind me why Cooling and Rylatt are in the draw, please? Very good play from them.

I think they're just a regular wildcard, along with Haddad & Read, and Mika & Hep

As opposed to Given and Ellie who 'earned' theirs

As with the singles, we had a couple of teams who made it in as of right so there were wildcards to spare, so to speak

But were 7 GB MD WCs this year any different from our norm?

Thanks, CD.  I thought wrongly, for some reason, that you can only play doubles if you're in the singles draw, WC or not.

Cooling and Rylatt are 2-1 up in the 2nd set and now Rylatt is having a medical time out (ankle, I believe.). They're playing so well. However, Mimi doesn't look herself, I have to say.

Different types of opponent certainly. But all great experience for Isabelle.

I don't think yesterday was a great experience unless having a bad experience is good in that it makes you stronger in some way going forward. Which might be true.

A couple of our girls' doubles matches have been cancelled for today.

I meant the grass court season as a whole. Hopefully there were learnings from yesterday.

Yes. True. And she's on court as we speak, for doubles, so that's always a different experience too

She and Hannah seem to get on very well. Hannah is very encouraging. They're a set and a break up.

Yes. Hannah IS very encouraging - and she needs to be - Isa really was not playing that well. Lots of doubles faults. And ovbiously not a natural at the net. But the two of them won and look happy, which is all matters.

I agree. And it's good to see them playing doubles. It's a chance hopefully to improve their net play and have some fun after all the pressure of the grass court season.

There was a change to the doubles draw. Originally Ranah/Mimi and Hannah/Ruby were drawn against different opponents, but the young American Tyra Grant sadly fractured a tibia late in her round 1 win. Hence she and Clervie were replaced as seeds by Ranah/Mimi

Doubles R1 (L32)

(1) Perez Alarcon/Quevedo (PER/USA) v Gilheany/Piani (AUS/GBR)
Klugman/Lacy d. Jones/Milic (AUS/SLO) 6-4 6-2
Ivanova/Rowinska (BUL/POL) v Blackford/Roach
(8) McDonald/Moyano (GBR/ARG) d. Konstantinova/Kostovic (BUL/SRB) 6-4 6-4
Haddad/Read v Esquiva Banuls/Genis Salas (ESP)
(9) Stoiber/Xu d. Cooling/Rylatt 3-6 6-4 [10-4]
Oluwadare/Stojsavljevic d. Slama/Smejkalova (USA/CZE) 7-5 6-4
