Yes, the fact that it is seeds 25 to 32 bracketed with seeds 1 to 8 for R3 rather changes the odds, with less chance of running into Djokovic or Alcaraz or indeed Medvedev if you just sneak into the seedings.

A match against any of seeds 1 to 8 would clearly still be a very tough ask but at least some are clearly very much preferable to the very top ones.

Players are of course at the mercy of the overall draw and results along the way whatever. But in genera I think you do want to be seeded and seeded as high as possible ( sort of why seedings are an aim and a prize ) then see what fate bestows. I suspect though that Andy will end up missing out on a US Open seeding.

Stuff has withdrawn from the US Open and there are doubts over another 2 or 3 from what Im hearing. So Im going to say a 34 or 35 ranking will be enough for a seeding and that victory over Sinner will be enough.

Sadly I cant see him beating Sinner so will need a last 16 run at Cinccy to get there.

agreed with this analysis. Who else is potentially out of the USO?

Shapovalov looks very doubtful and FAA clearly has something wrong. Bublik has withdrawn from Cincinnati as well.

2 from those 3 most likely.

Also just realised this probably been highlighted elsewhere but Andy Murray is the oldest ranked player in the top 50 and only Gasquet and Stan are older in the top 100.

I keep thinking Jamie and Michael will go deep in one or other events over the summer, but it isn't really happening. Sort of just living up to their seeding level and that is it.

Joe and Rajeev lose the opening set 7-6. They stand to lose 1000 points from Cinci and 2000 from the US Open and it will more take away half their respective points and drop them out of the top 30 in a few weeks time; that would be crazy, from WR 1 to outside the 30 in several months.

Not sure how they arrest this decline but it is getting serious now

Nick K is out, withdrawn - missed all 4 slams this season?

Nick is already down the rankings so his withdrawal wont help or hinder regardless. NK wont play again til
next year now I believe. Plenty of time for him to play computer games and do podcasts on basketball. Such a shame as hes box office stuff.

Fritz is out, Ruud is also out and Alcaraz is a set down to Hurkacz. If he goes (he will win in 3 ultimately), then I dont think Andy will ever have as good a chance to get to the later stages of such a big tournament.

Monfils a set and a break up, so a quarter final between Andy and Gael the prize for tonight. Im probably getting my hopes up here.

Alcaraz hangs on by winning the 2nd set tie break to take it to an inevitable decider. Meaning be nearer 3am before Andy.

Alcaraz did indeed win in three - good call.
