Indoor clay for Matt is an interesting choice of surface / event - but life is probably about more than points and maybe he fancied seeing something of another culture / country, and why not!
No idea but these guys travel the world and seeing different places must make it more interesting than going back to the same places year in, year out.
FQR: (q8) Mattias Southcombe WR 2010 LOST to (q13) Lu Chen-Yu (TPE) UNR 7-6(4) 6-2
Re Jon's comments, yes, some players must find it great to travel and see the world and different cultures
I've always thought that some (particularly those who like playing in Asia) should get a TEFL qualification - it's relatively easy to get and would be an excellent source of extra income in the downtime - of which there is plenty. I've seen it done on an informal scale, even in France, and I know there's a big demand in many Asian countries - Matt could earn a small packet doing some impromptu language lessons with the kids there
L32: (WC) Tang Kyle Lok Yin (MAC) UNR vs (LL) Mattias Southcombe WR 2017
Thats a very interesting name, Kyle amidst the other names?! Is MAC , Macedonia? Is heritage sounds very eclectic ?!
It is Macau - and Mattias won the match
Thanks TA - I hadnt realised Macau stood as a separate nationality as opposed to PRC? Out of touch with status! Does HKG stand alone still for tennis nations or is that consumed into PRC?

HKG, TPE MAC, CHN - All recognised as separate nationalities (by the WTA and ITF at least). I can't find another player from Macau with any ranking, not even an ITF one.
