Damas got in as a lucky loser & will face Jan Choinski if he gets past the German alternate, Louis Wessels.

L16:  (ALT) Louis Wessels (GER) WR 340 (CH = 267 in July last year) vs (2) Jan Choinski WR 148

He got out of jail there, spurning several match points in the second set & going at least one down in the third!

*****

QF:  Dimitar Kuzmanov (BUL) WR 207 (CH = 159 last August) vs 2) Jan Choinski WR 148

Yes, only saw the second half of the third set

But Jan was 5-3 up in games - lost three - was 5-6 down - and had to save three match points !

And the tie-break was anyone's.....

But he managed it

Well done Jan, came through in straight sets; while Liam getting plaudits elsewhere , Jan quietly progressing well here.

Jan really is on the charge right now. Great to see and another prospect for the Top 100.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Jan has played more tournaments than any other British player.  He has 11 non counters.  He seems to be reaping the rewards for his hard work and good luck to him.

Jan has only played two challenger finals, he won in October last year in South America of course but the other final was this same event as this week 5 years ago , when he lost the final. Would be great to move one better tomorrow

Jan already live 136 and could go into 120s with a title. Big improvement on previous career high. Great week.
