Week 33 - ATP Masters 1000 - Western & Southern Open - Cincinnati, OH, USA (hard)

Yep, Djokovic DF to give Alcaraz 2 BPs at 15-40, DFs again at MP up, misses out on his 2nd MP and 4th MP in all. And finally Djokovic from the back of the court smashes out a high recovery bouncing ball. Alcaraz breaks!

5-5

Djokovic misses out on 4 more BPs in all. He is now 1/13 in set 3, Alcaraz is 1/4.

Alcaraz 6-5*

Djokovic holds to 15 and after 3 hours 39 minutes it's a final set TB.

Djokovic wins it 5-7 7-6(7) 7-6(4)

Boo - but got to admire him yet again as an absolute tennis great.

Certainly seemed a match worth going back and seeing much more of than I managed tonight.

Well done Novak, hes growing on me, probably because hes roughly in my age group and Im clinging on to veterans these days.
Despite being Scottish I never liked Stephen Hendry and loved Steve Davis more until the end of Hendrys career. Must be nostalgia or some other thing going on.

Both Carlos and Novak are genuine guys in their interactions never seems forced, I actually think guys like Federer are slightly false more than the Novak.

Id be pretty certain this will be the US Open final, there are no other guys close to these two just now when it matters.

Well done Novak clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif. Certainly seems to be the real deal. Not sure it'll be a replay in the USO final as there are too many opportunities to have a bad day at the office.

Nostagia is not what it used to be. wink

US Open seems to be set up really well for these two - the new Big Two; will we see anyone else break into that group, probably not in the next 12 months but then Novak will probably start to look at retiring and we will need someone to challenger Alcaraz, who does look the real deal.

Looks like Djokovic will be number one post US Open - from Atp below

According to the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings, Alcaraz now leads Djokovic by only 20 points. Because the 20-year-old will be defending 2,000 points at the season's final major compared to none for Djokovic, who did not play the event last year, the 36-year-old is the overwhelming favourite to leave Flushing Meadows in the top spot.
